Donald Trump's allies and inner circle suggest massive overhaul of US electoral system

Members of Donald Trump’s inner circle are signaling that the new administration could implement massive election reform that would solidify the protections Republicans have been demanding since 2020.

The biggest change: turning Election Day into a national holiday when employers are mandated to give their workers paid time off to cast their votes.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a former 2024 Republican candidate who is now on the short list for an administration position, said holding a federal election on a single day would help restore voter confidence in U.S. elections.

He also stated that ballots rather than machines and requirements for government-issued identification to match the voter file would be a good place to start overhauling the system.

Meanwhile, podcaster Joe Rogan, who now almost certainly has a direct line to President-elect Trump, is also on board with making it a holiday.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who could likely land a job in the Trump administration, told Tucker Carlson on a podcast last week that: “All 50 states (should) have a minimum standard of single-day voting, paper ballots, ID issued by the government that coincides with the voters’ records. And I think we have more or less solved the problem of public confidence in elections in the long term.

During an episode with fellow podcaster Theo Von released on Nov. 8, Rogan raised questions about how there were so many unexplained “anomalies” in the 2020 election in an apparent effort to sow doubt about whether there were “cheats” that led to Trump’s defeat. Trump.

Then he suggested: ‘How about we have an election, a national election holiday? We could use one more vacation.

‘Celebrate it, it’s a great day. People can rejoice. It would also take a lot of stress away from people,’ Von agreed.

“It should be a paid vacation,” Rogan said. ‘You should expect to have to pay your employees on election day because everyone should be able to go vote. That’s what it should be. We’ll talk to Trump about it. Make it a national mandatory holiday.”

“I don’t have his number,” Von responded.

Rogan joked, “We could hook it up.” I know some people.

Podcaster Joe Rogan, who interviewed Trump just a week before the election, also believes Election Day should be a paid national holiday.

Meanwhile, Ramaswamy’s conversation with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson was also published three days after the 2024 presidential election.

He had some ways to improve American elections.

“What I care about is how we are going to fix it in a lasting way,” Ramaswamy said when discussing how to fix the US election. “I think we can do this on a national level, making the election a national holiday, putting it on one day, at least for a federal election.”

‘All 50 states have a minimum standard for single-day voting, ballots, and government-issued identification that matches the voter file. Period,” he suggested. “And I think we’ve more or less solved the problem of public confidence in elections in the long term.”

‘If you are against that, I would love to hear the best argument offered against it. Actually, I haven’t heard that yet.

Many states have early voting periods and several are liberal on mail-in and absentee ballots, both stipulations that Republicans oppose because they say they could pave the way for cheating or inaccuracies.

The biotech entrepreneur said it’s time to put 2020 behind us and move toward a better future with more confidence in the American electoral system.

‘What did we say this time? This had to be by such a decisive margin that a landslide victory minus some shenanigans will still be a decisive victory. And that’s what we got,” Ramaswamy said.

“So my view is that we can, and there will be so much temptation to do so, that we actually win, like we’re in a winning position right now,” he continued.

“So I pretty much don’t care about Joe Biden or Kamala Harris’s past. Like it just doesn’t matter,” he said.

Carlson said, “That’s the spirit.”
