Tragedy: 11-year-old boy dies while cycling in Queensland – family issues heartfelt tribute

The family of an 11-year-old boy who died while cycling home from school have paid tribute to their “beloved son”.

Gurmantar Singh Gill was returning home from school in Buderim on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast when he collided with a bus on Tuesday afternoon.

Gurmantar suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Sunshine Coast Hospital, where he later died.

His funeral was held on Friday and his family expressed their deep sadness and sorrow at the passing of their beloved son.

“Although Gurmantar Singh Gill was with us only for a short time, his spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him,” the statement said.

‘We gather to remember the joy and love he brought into our lives, even in the midst of our pain.’

The Forensic Accident Unit is investigating the incident which occurred at around 3.45pm when a bus travelling on Jingellic Drive near Karawatha Drive collided with the bicycle.

The driver, a man in his 60s, was not physically injured and is assisting police.

Investigations are continuing and witnesses or anyone with relevant information are urged to contact police.
