Tony Armstrong has very good reason to hope to win the Gold Logie this year.
The ABC News Breakfast presenter has been nominated for the coveted award for Australia’s most popular television personality and realises he would be the first Aboriginal person to win if he gets enough votes.
“Viewers should vote for me because they would be a positive part of history if this campaign is successful, because no Aboriginal person has ever won this award before,” the 34-year-old said. Television Tonight this week.
“I think it’s a bit late for congratulations on this, but it would be great to be the first,” he added.
The television personality added that he feels “honoured” by the prestigious recognition.
“Being nominated for a Gold Logie is definitely not something you set out to do, but when it happens, it really is a bit rewarding,” he said.
Tony previously revealed the one thing he doesn’t like about his Gold Award nomination.
He told viewers he did not like smiling in the photos used to publicize the vote.

Co-host Michael Rowland poked fun at Armstrong after sharing a promotional photo of the handsome star frowning.
“That’s so hot,” Rowland joked, adding, “When they asked you to pose for her, what did they say? What kind of image were they looking for?”
Armstrong responded: “They usually say, ‘We want you to smile more.’ And I don’t like to smile too much in photos, as you all know.”
“Fun fact,” Rowland joked to Armstrong.
Rowland also shared a behind-the-scenes video in which Armstrong can be seen watching a segment promoting his Gold Logie nomination.
Armstrong faces stiff competition in the Gold Logie race.
“Viewers should vote for me because if the campaign is successful they will be part of history because no Aboriginal person has ever won this award before,” said the 34-year-old actor. He is pictured with his girlfriend Rona Glynn-McDonald.
Other contenders include Robert Irwin, and his I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here co-host Julia Morris.
Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie and Seven’s Andy Lee are also in the running for the prestigious award.
YoIn addition to his Gold Logie nomination, Irwin, along with Morris, Emdur, Kruger and Armstrong, are also in the running for the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.
There is another strong contender in this category: Hamish Blake.
The 64th Logie Awards will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang and will take place in Sydney on August 18. This year, the event will be broadcast on Channel 7.
