Real Madrid stalwart Toni Kroos did not offer much insight into the ongoing Kylian Mbappé transfer saga as he refused to comment on the Frenchman’s long-awaited move to Los Blancos.

Mbappe is once again being strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, having informed Paris Saint-Germain that he wishes to leave the club at the end of his contract.

The French captain has been close to a move to Real several times throughout his career, seemingly on the verge of a move in 2022 before signing a lucrative extension with PSG, but has already hinted that his future will be revealed ahead of Euro 2024. .

However, this year it appears his heart is set on leaving, with Real Madrid the most likely destination for the forward, who faced Kroos in an international friendly at the weekend.

As a result, several players from both France and Real Madrid have been asked about the possibility of playing alongside Mbappé, who is probably the best player in the world at the moment, but Kroos was content to keep his cards close to his chest.

‘If even he doesn’t know, how can I know? The important thing is to win things. It would be good for Madrid, but I think we already have a good team,” he said at a press conference.

Kroos, to be fair, is in contract limbo of his own, with the German legend still unsure of his future at Real Madrid.

In the decade since he joined Los Blancos from Bayern Munich, Kroos has amassed 455 appearances, scoring 28 goals and assisting another 95 in that time.

He was part of the three-man midfield unit, including Luka Modric and Casemiro, that rivaled Barcelona’s Andrés Iniesta-Xavi-Sergio Busquets triumvirate for the title of best in the world.

However, after signing a one-year deal at the Bernabeu last season, Kroos remains unsure whether he will still be playing in the iconic white shirt at the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

One of the problems lies in the fact that Real have assembled a young and tremendously talented midfield that includes Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, and Federico Valverde also needs to somehow fit into the picture.

As such, Kroos, 34, and Modric, 38, face much less certain futures than Mbappé, 25, who does not have constant questions about possible retirement plaguing his every move.

Tchouameni appeared to let slip a hint that Mbappe would move to Spain next summer, although his international captain dismissed the suggestions with a joke.

speaking to telefootTchouameni stated: ‘The Spanish are aware of the player Kylian is, although when they see him every day they will realize the greatness of the player.’

When Mbappé was asked about the comment on Monday at a press conference ahead of France’s friendly against Chile on Tuesday, he joked that the Spaniards could see it regularly as PSG advance to the Champions League quarter-finals.

He said: ‘Well, I played against Real Sociedad (in the round of 16), we played against Barcelona in the quarter-finals and, if we go through, maybe Atlético in the semi-finals!

“So yes, the Spanish will see me a little more.”
