A heartbroken mother has described the moment she discovered her teenage son had been murdered in a “honeytrap” murder, after moving to the UK in search of a better life.

Bermuda-born Lyrico Steede, 17, was stabbed almost 20 times after being ambushed while on a “date” with a 15-year-old girl in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, in 2019.

Detectives managed to use social media to track down his teenage killers, who boasted of killing him in a grime song.

A new Channel 4 series about the case, Murder Case: Digital Detectives, follows the gripping case and reveals the instrumental CCTV footage that captured her killers.

It also includes interviews with Lyrico’s mother, Keishaye Steede, who tragically confessed that she had brought her family from Bermuda to the UK to offer them a “better life”, but three years later she had lost her beloved son.

Lyrico’s mother Keishaye heartbreakingly confessed that she brought the family to the UK so they could have a “better life”.

Speaking on the show, he described the moment he discovered his son had been murdered, saying: ‘There is a knock on the door. It’s the police. The first thing they ask me is where my son is. That’s when they say he was stabbed.

‘Everything went away, I almost felt like I couldn’t breathe. Nothing inside me believed what he says. Lyrico was my only son.

‘People told him, ‘You’re like your mom.’ Our bond was different. That was my baby.’

Lyrico was 14 when Keishaye brought the family to live in the UK.

She continued: ‘I moved everyone here to have a better life. I wanted them to be able to experience university, college. All those things.

‘Lyrico had gone from being my little boy to this great man who was doing his thing. I think he felt like he had to be someone he wasn’t.

“I was so closed off to everything that happened here in Nottingham until my son passed away. He always assured me that when he went out, he was safe. He knew nothing about street life in the UK.

“I was thinking about my son, how he felt when he ran, how he felt when the knife went into him and what kind of thoughts he had in his mind.”

Two members of the gang, Kasharn Campbell, 19, and Christian Jameson, 18, were found guilty of Steede’s murder.

Remmell, Campbell-Miller, 18, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

The documentary also shed light on a horrifying video uploaded to YouTube after Lyrico’s death, which investigators said sounded like the killers were “bluffing.”

The grime music video, shown in the documentary, features haunting lyrics such as: “Three holes in a man’s back, as if he had been splashed by Poseidon’s trident.”

Despite not naming Lyrico, the teenagers sing, “He was lucky the sword was dull,” apparently referencing his murder.

Before he died, Steede managed to tell police that he had been attacked by four people, however authorities had little else to say, including where the attack had occurred and why.

This was his last statement, and his last known words were captured on body camera.

The first breakthrough in the case came when authorities managed to locate a 15-year-old girl, who was brought in as a witness and confirmed that she had been with Steede the night of his death.

After meeting through Snapchat, the two agreed to meet for a “date” in the park.

Detective Chief Inspector Hayley Williams, who led the case, said: “Girl 1 is very important… it couldn’t happen without her – that’s the trick part.”

He initially claimed that while the two were there, they were attacked by four thugs who stole his iPad and then chased Mr Steede away.

After this, police made their biggest breakthrough in the case when they managed to locate “gold dust” CCTV footage showing Mr Steede running. and four individuals chasing him.

DIC Williams said: “This is gold dust for us because one we know Lyrico hasn’t started the fight, two we have a direction of travel, three it’s not a matter of the killers just finding Lyrico on the street, so now They’re thinking ‘well, how did they know he’d be there?’

Another uncovered shock occurred shortly after when the force found CCTV footage of the bus the 15-year-old took to get home after her “date”.

In it she can clearly be seen holding the iPad, which she had previously claimed was stolen, and ducking behind the bus seats as police sirens passed by outside.

Continuing to piece together clues, police contacted several local taxi agencies to see if this was how the killers had fled the scene.

One such taxi company confirmed that they had taken a group of children about five miles to Sneinton, although there was no DNA on the vehicle, the driver had been holding a mobile phone which he had left behind.

DNA and fingerprints were successfully extracted from the Nokia, but did not match anyone in the police database.

After an online appeal for more information, Kasharn Campbell’s name was handed over to police and authorities managed to track his phone from the night in question by seeing where it bounced off cell towers.

They discovered that it was traveling in the same direction as the taxi, moving away from the scene of the murder.

Police then received two more names: Remell Miller-Campbell and Christian Jameson.

CCTV footage of two of the suspects was once again discovered in a shop showing Jameson talking on the phone at 6.42pm.

This timestamp matched a call made by a mobile phone in the taxi as it traveled from Sneinton to Bulwell, placing it in the park on the night of the murder.

Then, while Jameson was in custody, police found a phone hidden in his butt, which showed not only Google searches about Lyrico’s murder, but also a Nokia number that was found in the taxi of another teenager, the fourth suspect. .

Steede managed to get to a nearby house for help after the brutal stabbing and was rushed to hospital, although he died from his injuries five days later.
