Sacked Channel 7 news presenter Sharyn Ghidella has sent a final message to her boss just days before she returns to Australian television.

The respected journalist has been sacked from her high-profile role at Brisbane’s Channel 7 after 17 years with the network.

But she now says she is “back home” and will return to competitor Network 10 as presenter of Queensland’s “new” 10 News First from Monday.

Ghidella appeared on The Project where she gave one last message to her former employer.

“Don’t call me at the barber shop… that wasn’t the cut I was expecting,” he joked.

‘Seriously, I mean, look, there are good people at Channel 7, I had a good career there… It was fine until it ended.’

The 57-year-old was sacked from Seven after 17 years while having her hair done for a promotional photoshoot, sending shockwaves through households across Queensland.

The news presenter said she is excited to be returning to Network Ten, bringing local news to Brisbane.

The news presenter said it was a great opportunity, she was returning home and began her career with Ten in 1990.

‘In 1990, I started at Ten in Brisbane, the hair was “Pretty big. The shoulder pads were even bigger,” Ghidella said.

Martin White, Head of Broadcast News, Paramount Australia and New Zealand, welcomed Ghidella to Ten in a LinkedIn post earlier this month.

“This is a big day for 10 in Queensland. We strongly believe in local journalism and providing our audience with the best content possible, which aligns perfectly with Sharyn, Brisbane’s number one news presenter,” White said.

“We’re delighted to welcome him back to No. 10 and can’t wait to get started.”

Ghidella will replace another beloved Queenslander, Sandra Sully, who has been presenting the Queensland bulletin from Sydney for the past few years.

She was abruptly fired by Channel 7 weeks ago due to widespread staff layoffs.

Ghidella, who has worked in journalism for 38 years, announced in a Facebook statement on July 12 that she had been asked to leave the Seven Network.

The mother-of-two had built an extensive media career over the past four decades, with previous stints at Channel 10 before joining Seven as a weekend presenter in 2007.

“When you work in television for as long as I have, not a day goes by that you don’t expect to get a tap on the shoulder… After 38 years, I finally got a tap on the shoulder,” he said.

‘It wasn’t exactly how I expected it to end up on Channel 7.

‘I was sitting in the salon for work when I got a call telling me that after 17 years at the chain, my time was up.

“And while I am a little saddened by this decision, I also feel a certain relief. As has been widely reported, the last two weeks on television have, unfortunately, been a depressing situation.”
