While Idaho ranks among the states with the lowest overall population, it is also experiencing some of the fastest growth in the country.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Idaho was the fourth-fastest-growing state in 2023. As of July of that year, the state had a population of 1,964,726.
Interestingly, the small town of Ponderay in far northern Idaho, has experienced a significant population increase. Among 2020 to 2023, The city on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille saw its population increase by 51 percent, Welcoming 660 new residents.
This increase positions Ponderay as a fast-growing “gateway” community, just a stone’s throw from Sandpoint and the famous Schweitzer Ski Resort.
