Terry Crews’ wife has revealed that her marriage to the America’s Got Talent host almost ended in divorce three times, but they managed to resolve their issues after the actor got to “working on himself”.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Rebecca King-Crews gushed about her husband of 35 years and how much she admires his ambition and tenacity, but she also revealed that life hasn’t always been as easy as they once almost found it. homeless.
Rebecca, 58, opened up about the ups and downs of their relationship, explaining: ‘Our faith is common ground, so we share those values and even if we don’t always live them, we try.
‘There is a certain type of person that we both try to be and then we have faith in the fact that we chose each other for a reason.
‘It’s funny because we’ve talked about this, because we’ve probably had two or three cases (where) we could have ended the marriage, in 35 years. Every time we were in those crises, one of us wanted out, but the other didn’t, so the other one fought.’
Terry Crews’ wife Rebecca (pictured in 2021) has revealed that her marriage to the America’s Got Talent host almost ended in divorce three times.
The couple (pictured in September) has had their fair share of ups and downs.
The mother of five, who is opening a boutique in Pasadena for her clothing line. Rebecca Crews This week, she continued: ‘So the first time I wanted out, he fought for me. The second time he wanted out and I fought for him, and the third time he had to confess his addiction and I kicked him out.
“He fell to the floor like a two-year-old and begged me not to leave him and I said, ‘Well, you ruined it, you know?’ and he got to work on himself and he’s a better person, but he can do it.” “I’m still getting better,” Rebecca continued.
Both Terry and Rebecca have spoken openly about their marital struggles in recent years, and in 2021, the White Chicks star admitted that her porn addiction nearly destroyed their relationship.
When asked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage, Rebecca said, “You have to make sure you get what you want and they get what they want.” One of the reasons I was able to stay in my marriage is because I knew what I wanted when I got married.
“I knew I wanted a certain life and it turned out he wanted what I wanted,” she said of Terry, whom she married in July 1989.
‘Sometimes people fall in love with people who don’t want what they want, they don’t want the same thing. One person wants to have children, the other doesn’t. That’s a recipe for disaster.
“I hate to say it’s like a job interview, but it really was for me, knowing that Terry’s goals were very close to mine was like a sign to me,” he added.
‘It’s been difficult and my husband has spoken openly about the problems he’s had, but deep down Terry was just a good guy and he was my friend.
The couple (pictured at the 2024 Grammy Awards) are now business partners in their Rebecca Crews clothing line.
The couple pictured with their family are now empty nesters, which Rebecca described as “really fun.”
“I loved him as a person before I fell in love with him and he’s still my friend, and I’ll still insult him one minute and turn around and hug him the next and say, ‘But you’re still my boo.'” ‘Rebecca said effusively.
The businesswoman said she still holds Terry to a certain ‘standard’, but admitted that forgiveness is also an important aspect of making their relationship work.
“I always say, ‘Look, we’re older now, it’s time for you to stop doing that,’ and whatever it is, I’m like, ‘You know I love you, but you can do better,’ and he’s like, ‘I’m not perfect.'” and I’m like, “No, but you can do better,” he divulged.
‘And so I still hold him to a standard, but I also forgive him for things that maybe he never did that I wanted him to do, or things that he did that he shouldn’t have done, and forgiveness is another principle.
“You can’t stay married (and) you can’t stay friends if you can’t forgive people, but you forgive them if they sincerely repent, you don’t give cheap forgiveness, you don’t just keep hanging on.” “Bad behavior,” Rebecca explained.
‘Sometimes you have to create some distance, or you have to say your prayers and go somewhere alone and let them feel the consequences of not having your company, and that’s what happened when we had our moment. I told him, “you have to be alone,” and he was devastated.
The couple, who are parents to four daughters: Naomi, 36, Azriél, 33, Tera, 26, and Wynfrey, 21, and their son Isaiah, 19, have lived in Pasadena, California, for 25 years, but they certainly also live difficult times as a family.
Rebecca admitted she still holds Terry (pictured together in 2021), who she has been married to for 35 years, to a certain “standard”
‘There was a season of our lives where we could have been homeless,’ Rebecca (pictured in 2018) revealed.
“There was a season in our lives where we could have been homeless,” Rebecca revealed.
‘And, of course, we always say that God provides because something helped us.
“But we were a week away from having to be away from our house and we had nowhere to go, and something happened at the last minute, and we literally walked across the street,” referring to when they lived in Burbank.
Speaking about what life is like now that all her children have left home, Rebecca said: ‘I have a lot of freedom now, my husband and I travel more.
“Sometimes I get to hang out with him while he works and get on the plane with him, so it’s really, really fun to be an empty nester.
“But I tried to make sure I had everything ready for when they left home,” she added, before joking about Terry: “But I will say this: He’s like just another kid!”
With her children now grown, Rebecca has had more time to focus on her clothing line and says Terry has been an important support, both financially and emotionally, and even credits him with instilling a fierce determination in her.
For many years, Rebecca has focused on raising her children while Terry’s acting career was going from strength to strength, but she said of her journey: “It’s never too late.”
‘You can focus on one thing and then focus on another, you don’t have to light the candle at both ends to live your dream.
“I have a new boldness and a new faith in myself,” she said. ‘I feel very grateful and overwhelmed.
“I was with my staff and we were taking things out of our storage unit and our studio and bringing things into the store, and I just wanted to cry.
‘I thought, “Oh my God, I have a store in Pasadena!” “It’s amazing, it’s just a dream come true and I see even bigger and better things.”
