Sir Elton John is trying to reunite the original cast of the film The Devil Wears Prada for the opening night of his musical version in the West End.
Invitations have been pouring into Hollywood, and now he and his fellow producers are waiting for RSVPs.
“We don’t know if Meryl Streep will come, but the invitation is there,” said a source. “I think Anne Hathaway is coming.”
The show has its gala night at the Dominion Theater on December 1, World AIDS Day, with Sir Elton, who wrote the music, and her husband David Furnish in attendance.
The stage version stars Vanessa Williams as terrifying editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, the role Streep made famous, and Georgie Buckland as aspiring journalist Andy, first played by Hathaway. Emily Blunt also played assistant Emily.
The musical debuted in Chicago in 2022 and the cast hopes to enjoy a performance in New York next time. At a Fortnum & Mason Salcombe Gin party, Georgie tells me: ‘We hope it moves to Broadway. That’s the goal, to get there.’
Genuine designer clothing from 2005 is used on the show when the action takes place, but my source tells me it will be kept under lock and key.
“No expense is spared on the program,” they said. “But there will be a solid inventory so that no items are lost, in case a cast member tries to borrow a bag for the evening.”

Favor paid when Kate signs nepo baby Ned Sims
Kate Moss is clearly not worried about the ‘nepo babies’ row, as the supermodel-turned-agent has hired the son of the man who made her famous.
Her agency now represents Ned Sims, the son of photographer David Sims, who photographed 17-year-old Kate in 1993 for his groundbreaking Calvin Klein campaign.
Interestingly, Ned, who at 5ft 11in, a bit small for a male model, went straight from unknown to the face of Zara’s autumn/winter 24 campaign. Before this important job, Ned had only appeared in the specialized fashion magazine Homme.
Moss has several nepo babies (the derogatory term for people considered to have benefited from nepotism) in her books, including her own ‘mini-me’, Lila Moss.
