Curry has two years left on his contract, but reportedly wanted to finalize an extension at some point this summer. The 36-year-old point guard has $178 million guaranteed over the next three years of his deal.
Although Golden State might have wanted to extend him longer, the extension is limited to one year as a result of the NBA’s over-38 rule, Bobby Marks of ESPNUnder the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, teams cannot offer contracts of four or more years to players who are over 38 or who will turn 38 during the contract. Curry will turn 38 in 2026, when this extension begins.
Curry has spent his entire career with the Warriors, having been drafted by the team in 2009. In an interview with Yahoo Sports in July, the Golden State star said he wants to be “a Warrior for life.”
Curry is a 10-time All-Star, two-time MVP and has helped the team win four NBA championships. He holds franchise records for points, assists, steals, three-pointers and much more.
