Steph no longer addresses crowd ahead of Klay’s return at Dubs-Mavs originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Klay Thompson has once again asked Steph Curry not to do anything for him.
Curry was scheduled to give a speech to fans at Chase Center before the Warriors and Dallas Mavericks tipped off Tuesday night at Chase Center, but that will no longer happen.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters before the game that Curry and Thompson spoke Monday night and agreed to cancel the pregame speech, which was to take place after the player introductions.
“It often happens in circumstances like this, whether it’s ring night or something like that, where a player comes back,” Kerr told reporters before the match when asked about the intense emotions of the game. “I know we talked about Steph addressing the crowd. He’s not going to do that now. He and Klay talked about it last night. They both have a game to prepare for.
“And to your point, there will be enough excitement. The crowd will give a huge cheer that will probably continue for a while. So those guys got together and decided that no words were necessary, and we let them know. And hopefully we can adapt to the game quickly “.
Thompson is playing his long-awaited first game against the Warriors after leaving the franchise in July.
The Warriors will hand out captain’s caps to fans in attendance at Chase Center and play a tribute video to Thompson before introducing him to the crowd.
Before leaving the Warriors, Thompson asked Curry and Draymond Green not to leave. pressure Warriors to make one last push to bring him back.
Like this summer, Curry granted Thompson’s request.
