On September 19, Shohei Ohtani sent an 89 mph Miami Marlins pitch well over the wall at LoanDepot Park to officially become the first member of MLB’s 50-50 club.
Now, the ball Ohtani hit for his 50th home run of the season, after stealing his 50th base of the season, is up for auction for a staggering six-figure sum.
The opening offer for Goldin Auction Ohtani’s home run is priced at $500,000.
The auction opens Friday at noon and appears to run through October 16.
The baseball has been authenticated by MLB as of the game in Miami, where the Dodgers superstar went 6-for-6 at the plate with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
The ball Shohei Ohtani hit to become the first member of the 50-50 club will be auctioned
Ohtani became the sixth member of the extremely rare 40-40 club with the same two stats in August, a first for his career.
The Japanese giant became the first person to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases in late August, putting a 50-50 season within reach for the first time in baseball history.
None of the other five members of the 40-40 club came close to accomplishing the near-impossible. Ohtani did it two weeks before the end of the regular season.
Heading into Wednesday night’s game against the Padres, Ohtani has 53 home runs and 55 RBIs.
There is an option to privately purchase Ohtani’s baseball for $4.5 million, which is on the table until one week remains in the auction.
If at any time an offer of more than $3 million is made for the baseball, the private sale opportunity disappears.
