Samantha Kerr’s court proceedings have been delayed until next month after her defense asked for more time to present their arguments to have allegations that she racially harassed a police officer dismissed.
The footballer’s lawyers were due to appear in court today to make an abuse of process application, but the hearing was delayed until May 20.
His Honor Judge Davies, presiding over the case, told Kingston Crown Court: “This was due to proceed today but the defense made an application to adjourn the abuse application and reset the timetable.”

“The skeleton of the defense will be ready on May 1 and the prosecution’s response on May 15.” Kerr did not appear at the south-west London court today, nor did any member of his legal team.

Judge Judith Elaine Coello said it was understood that the footballer’s defense would be that his intention was not to disturb the police officer during the incident on January 30, 2023.
“My understanding of the defense is that she did not intend to cause alarm, harassment or distress to the officer, (her behavior) did not extend to him and was not racially aggravated,” the judge asked Kerr’s lawyer, Grace Forbes.
But Kerr’s defense is understood to be attempting to abuse the application of process to dismiss the case.

If the trial goes ahead, it is likely to hear evidence from PC Lovell, and jurors are expected to be shown body-worn footage of the incident.
Kerr’s hearing will take place five days before the Women’s Champions League final, which Chelsea hope to reach by beating Barcelona in the second leg of the semi-finals tomorrow.
