Sadio Mane missed a penalty in Al-Nassr’s Saudi Pro League victory over Al Feiha on Friday.
Luis Castro’s side fell behind after just six minutes at the Al-Awwal Stadium, with former Rangers striker Fashion Sakala giving the visitors an unlikely lead.
Al-Nassr was without Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portuguese superstar was suspended after receiving a straight red card in the club’s semi-final exit from the Saudi Cup last week.
Thus, when the hosts won a penalty on the brink of half-time, Mane took advantage of the opportunity to level the match from twelve meters.
In the end, the Senegalese striker’s shot went well over the crossbar and his team entered the break still trailing.
Sadio Mané sent his penalty high over the crossbar in Friday’s clash between Al-Nassr and Al Feiha.
But the Senegalese striker made up for his mistake with a quick brace in a 3-1 win.
With the match approaching its final stages, Al-Nassr would finally build on its momentum when Saudi defender Abdulelah Al-Amri tied the game in the 72nd minute.
Having seized the initiative, the hosts pressed on and Mane atoned for his earlier error by putting them in front in the 76th minute before adding the third with a sublime solo run moments later.
With a comeback and qualification for next season’s AFC Champions League assured, Ronaldo shared his congratulations to his teammates in a social media post, writing: “Well done team.”
However, while Mané certainly made up for his mistake from the penalty spot, he is unlikely to take Ronaldo’s place as the club’s designated taker in the near future.
After missing out due to suspension, Cristiano Ronaldo shared his congratulations on social networks
Ronaldo has yet to miss a penalty since joining the Saudi Pro League last year.
Since arriving at the club in January last year, the 39-year-old has a perfect penalty-taking record, scoring all 14 he has taken for the club, including penalty shoot-outs.
In fact, Ronaldo has not missed a penalty since Manchester United were eliminated from the FA Cup by Middlesbrough in February 2022, when Joe Lumley denied the five-time Ballon d’Or winner a penalty during normal time.
