Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been hugely impressed with young batsman Riyan Parag’s game sense, match awareness and ability to face the best bowlers with composure. The 22-year-old has been in sensational form this IPL season and became the leading run-scorer with his unbeaten 54 in Rajasthan Royals’ six-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Monday. “I didn’t know he was that young. He’s only 22. When someone has control of his skills against the best bowlers in the world, backed up by his composure, sense of game, sense of timing, the right bowler to make a where to go go, and where to hit is impressive,” Watson said on Jio Cinema.
The knock against MI was Parag’s second consecutive fifty.
After the match, Parag, who is putting up a great performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, said he is trying to keep things simple.
“I love him talking about how he’s simplified everything. As a hitter you have the intent and you’re looking at the ball, ready to react, and he does that with so much time. Now he’s at the top of the pile when push comes to shove arrives coming to the Orange Cap,” Watson added.
