A three-month-old baby has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition with a stab wound to the stomach and a woman has been charged with attempted murder.

A baby was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with a stab wound and a woman has been charged with attempted murder in Queensland.

Police arrested a 26-year-old woman at a home in Ripley in Ipswich, where she lived with the child, at 5.30am on Saturday.

Emergency services responded to reports of an alleged stabbing and upon arrival officers found the three-month-old baby with a wound to the abdomen.

Officers provided first aid to the baby until paramedics arrived while the woman was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

A crime scene at the home has been declared and investigations into the circumstances of the incident continue.

It is unknown what relationship the woman had with the child.

She will be detained over the weekend and will appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on February 12.
