Richard Wilkins has hit out at critics who branded his son Christian a ‘nepo baby’ after the budding actor topped the list of Australia’s most privileged children.
The term ‘nepo baby’ refers to a person who benefits from their family connections or privileged environment.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Richard said the label irritated him because his son shouldn’t be criticized for having parents who are simply trying to support their child.
“It irritates me a little because you look at any law firm or panelist and they all hug their families and give their children jobs and help them with their lives,” he said.
‘Why wouldn’t you do that? That’s being a father, helping your child. Yes, you can open a door, but he has to go through it.

Meanwhile, Christian, who recently moved to the US to pursue an acting career, laughed at the label.
He said his famous surname has not influenced his success abroad.
“I feel very grateful to be my father’s son and if that’s being a nepo baby, then whatever,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
And yet, I can tell you this. Unfortunately, the Wilkins name doesn’t carry the same weight in Los Angeles, so I don’t necessarily feel like a nepo baby there.’

Richard added: “His timing last year wasn’t ideal, he moved there a week before the writers’ strike so not much happened, but this year he’s back and things are working out, it’s great.”

Meanwhile, Richard reflected on the journey to bringing the podcast to life.
“It has taken about two years to get to this point. We stopped, stopped, stopped, stopped and Christian moved to the US, but it’s a really nice feeling to see those quirky photos we had taken come to life and the podcast being produced and put together.
“We are happy, proud and excited.”
