A sorority president has responded to an online troll who took issue with the group’s use of a Chappell Roan song in a recruitment video.
Earlier this week, Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Central Oklahoma uploaded a clip showing the latest group of women to join the sorority dancing to Chappell’s hit song, HOT TO GO.
But when one of the singer’s most devoted fans took to X, formerly of Twitter, to slam them for including the song in the clip, the sorority president was not amused.
The hater said that while they were happy that Chappell, who identifies as lesbian, was “getting recognition,” they theorized that “half” of the women in Alpha Gamma Delta’s video would be mocking the pop star for her sexuality.
“I love that Chappell is getting recognition, but I’m afraid half of them would probably diss her,” wrote user X.

But Alpha Gamma Delta president Madison Newberry was quick to come to the sorority’s defense.
She dismissed User X’s claim, explaining that she herself was queer and a big fan of Chappell.
“I’m the president of this chapter and I’m also queer,” Madison responded. “LGBTQ+ people in sororities exist and we just have fun.”
“I saw Chappell in concert in February and had a blast watching his show and filming this TikTok. Sending him all my love.”
After Madison responded, User X changed her settings so that her original post could no longer be seen by people she didn’t follow, but not before others took screenshots of the exchange and shared them online.
The interaction went viral and many people were quick to show their support for Madison.
“As a gay woman old enough to be one of your professors, I never imagined mainstream Greek life would accept us,” one person responded.
“Thank you for sharing this authentic millennial moment of chopping onions. And thank you for challenging my stereotypes.”
The hater theorized that ‘half’ of the women in Alpha Gamma Delta’s video were mocking Chappell, who identifies as lesbian, for her sexuality.
But Madison was quick to defend the sisterhood, debunking the X user’s claim and explaining that she herself is queer and a huge fan of Chappell.
The interaction went viral and many people were quick to show their support for Madison.
“This video made me smile. I can just imagine what it would be like to be a queer girl at this stage in my life and how accepted and welcomed I would feel in that situation because of something like that. These are so cool,” said another.

Someone else added: “Thank you for showing the world that us gays can and are Greek too.”
“I smoked it,” a fourth tweet simply said, while a fifth read: “Period.”
“I’m sick of people acting like popular people are bad. Calm them down Madison,” another user tweeted.
“This is why people shouldn’t go around accusing people of being homophobic. You never know,” another person said.
“I’m a Madison Newberry fan now,” someone else joked.
Chappell released his debut album last year and almost instantly became a huge star.
She opened for Olivia Rodrigo on her Guts World Tour and performed at major music festivals such as Coachella and Governors Ball.
She is now preparing to embark on her own tour, which was originally planned for club-sized venues.
But demand has been so high that some dates had to be moved to larger venues, and even those venues sold out.
