Queen Mary of Denmark has admitted she has felt “overwhelmed” since taking the throne, after her husband tried to put an end to “romance” rumors in a gushing interview.
The royal couple gave their first interview as King and Queen, describing their feelings on replacing Queen Margaret, how they feel they have been accepted and what they see for the future.
They sat next to each other in the interview, and King Frederik emphasized the couple’s united front by using the word “we” instead of “I” on countless occasions.
‘We have begun our vocation and our work, which symbolically happens with this action on the royal ship. It’s very special,’ he stated.
Royal Household commentator Jakob Steen Olsen believes the interview, including the delayed timing, suggests the couple are keen to move forward as one after months of nasty romance rumours.
He says the pointed language suggests the couple wants to “get off to a good start without any nasty questions or agendas.”
Queen Mary of Denmark has admitted she has felt “overwhelmed” since taking the throne, after her husband tried to put an end to “romance” rumors in a gushing speech.
They sat next to each other in the interview, and King Frederik emphasized the couple’s united front by using the word “we” instead of “I” on countless occasions.
Their relationship has been under the microscope since November last year, when photos were published showing the then-Crown Prince in Madrid with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova.
The couple went out to a restaurant, walked around Madrid, saw an art exhibition and even spent two hours in Genoveva’s apartment, as reported at the time.
Queen Margaret’s abdication was widely rumored to be a damage control tactic for the popular couple.
Since the rumored romance, every photograph of the King and Queen has been flooded with comments and speculation about their love and happiness.
Many fans expressed their disappointment with the King and their love for the Queen, whom they revere as “cool, calm, collected and always stylish.”
Olsen said the television interview was the perfect “launching pad” for the couple who have remained relatively quiet since the scandal.
The couple formed a united front that warmed the hearts of their fans.
He said the television station would have had strict guidelines for the interview, as decreed by the royal household.
In the same interview, Queen Mary, who grew up in Tasmania, Australia, admitted to feeling overwhelmed “at times” in her new role.
“It’s very new and there are a lot of changes and decisions,” he said.
However, she seemed confident, adding that she believes that once they are past the transition period, she will be more settled.
She also reflected on the moment her husband became king.
“I was with the children and when you went out onto the balcony towards your destination, it was a moment that moved me very much. We could hear it and feel it, even if we couldn’t see it. It was a beautiful moment. “I was very happy and very proud,” she gushed.
The couple said they would focus on everyday tasks and traditional commitments before adding their own influence as King and Queen.
It comes after many comments about his relationship after the King’s ‘night out’ in Madrid last year with Genoveva Casanova
The interview took place during one of the monarch’s most traditional tasks: the annual visit to Sweden and other neighboring countries aboard the royal ship Dannebrog.
Photos and videos from the ship show the King and Queen acting playfully, linking arms and chatting with excited fans.
‘Looks like they’ve made up!’ said one.
“It’s good to see them laughing together again,” said another.
