Subway has decided it’s time for a change, much to the dismay of Reddit users.
The restaurant franchise announced yesterday that it had entered into a 10-year agreement with PepsiCo.
All U.S. Subway locations will offer drinks like Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Lipton, per the deal starting in January 2025.
This deal also means that Subway customers will say goodbye to the ability to order a Coca-Cola at the restaurant.
“This is the final straw,” one Reddit user wrote, to which another person replied, “This will be a major deterrent to going to Subway.”
Subway announced in a press release yesterday that the company has entered into a 10-year agreement with PepsiCo.
All U.S. Subway locations will offer drinks like Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Lipton as per the deal starting in January 2025.
As a result of this agreement, Coca-Cola products will no longer be available for purchase at Subway for the first time in almost 20 years.
The Coca-Cola Company was the main supplier of drinks for Subway since 2005.
Before Coco-Cola, PepsiCo was the primary beverage supplier to all Subway locations since 1988.
Subway North America President Doug Fry is excited about the new deal.
“Partnering with PepsiCo is an exciting step in our journey to becoming America’s favorite place to eat, drink and work,” he said in the press release.
“It’s a win-win for everyone, as it offers our customers a delicious range of beverage and snack choices, prompting additional consideration of these menu items, while also providing solutions profitable and streamlined to our franchisees. »
Although this new deal is angering Reddit users, it’s old news for some other regions.
Subway noted that PepsiCo is already its current beverage supplier in countries including Canada, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands.
Subway North America President Doug Fry called the new deal an “exciting milestone” in the franchise’s journey to making it “America’s favorite place to eat.”
Domino’s in Australia received a lot of hate after making the decision to swap Coke for Pepsi in 2017.
A Facebook status about the issue created by Liam Wilson went viral quickly after the change.
“The fact that you changed your drink selection from Coke to Pepsi not only disappoints me but makes me sick,” he wrote.
“Whoever decided this was a good choice should be fired immediately.”
The change at Subway also comes years after JetBlue angered travelers by switching from Coca-Cola to Pepsi in 2019.
The airline received a lot of hate from social media users shortly after the change, but it continues to serve Pepsi to this day.
Reddit users had widely varying opinions on the deal, whether they sided with Pepsi or Coco-Cola.
Reddit users showed a lot of anger in their comments regarding the new deal between Subway and PepsiCo
One Reddit user even brought up Subway’s previous partnership with Pepsi.
“I’m hoping to add Wild Cherry Pepsi instead of Cherry Coke,” wrote one Reddit user who appears to be on board with the change.
Others criticized Subway in their comments and wrote that this drink is “another reason not to go to Subway.”
“This seems like a desperate move from a financially struggling company,” one user wrote.
