A major police operation is underway at the University of Sydney, with students evacuated from buildings on Friday afternoon over fears of a bomb threat.

USYD student newspaper Honi Soit reported the incident on social media, writing: ‘Honi Soit has received allegations of a threat on the Camperdown campus.

‘The police have arrived. Fisher Library, Abercrombie and the New Law Building were evacuated within the last hour.

NSW Police confirmed an exclusion area had been established, adding: “A police operation is underway at a university campus on City Road, Camperdown.

A major police operation is underway at the University of Sydney, with students evacuated from buildings on Friday afternoon over fears of a bomb alert.

‘There is an exclusion zone and the community is urged to avoid the area. There is no further information at this time.”

A University of Sydney spokesperson told student newspaper Honi Soit that staff “immediately contacted” police “as soon as we became aware of a threat.”
