NBC News was forced to issue a correction after an anchor made a false claim on ‘Meet the Press’ involving President Biden, Vice President Harris and the families of fallen U.S. troops.

Republican Senator Tim Cotton accused Biden and Harris of neglecting to hold a dignified transfer ceremony for the 13 soldiers killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

That’s when host Kristen Welker incorrectly claimed that both the president and vice president had attended the event.

“You know who the families invited, too? Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Where were they?” Cotton said. “Joe Biden was sitting on a beach. Kamala Harris was sitting in her mansion in Washington, D.C. She was four miles away, ten minutes.”

“He could have gone to the cemetery and honoured the sacrifice of those young men, but he has not done so. He has never spoken to them or met with them,” he continued.

“It is because of his and Joe Biden’s incompetence that those 13 Americans died in Afghanistan,” Cotton added.

Welker tried to intervene, saying, “Well, they met with them during the dignified transfer. They were with them during the dignified transfer.”

But the NBC host was wrong, and in a rare admission of error, Meet the Press issued a correction on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘On our broadcast this morning, we incorrectly implied that both President Biden and Vice President Harris attended the dignified transfer of 13 U.S. service members killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Biden was present, but Harris was not.’

But users were not satisfied with the apology.

Last year, a damning watchdog report claimed poor planning by the US military ahead of an “abrupt” withdrawal from Afghanistan led to the rapid collapse of the Western-backed government when the Taliban overran the country in August 2021.

“She didn’t ‘hint’ at it. She outright said it. She lied to protect Kamala. Shame on you,” the X Libs TikTok account commented.

Last year, a damning watchdog report claimed poor planning by the US military ahead of the “abrupt” withdrawal from Afghanistan led to the rapid collapse of the Western-backed government when the Taliban invaded the country in August 2021.

The scathing analysis by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) concluded that the US decision to withdraw “destroyed the morale” of the Afghan National Security Force (ANDSF) and that the 300,000 local troops were doomed to failure without US support.

It also details the more than $7 billion worth of weapons and equipment left at the disposal of the Taliban and the widespread corruption that dominated the Afghan military and government.
