Miranda Hart has revealed she broke up with her husband before their romantic proposal at Kew Gardens.

The comedian surprised her fans this week when she announced she was married at the age of 51, but has now admitted that her relationship has had its challenges.

In her new book I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, Miranda confessed that she “briefly” broke up with her husband after believing her “hope of finding love was very, very slim.”

“I admitted that I also longed for love within a romantic relationship, for that person who really got me, but my hopes for that were very, very slim,” she admitted.

But even after meeting her building surveyor husband when he came to fix a mold problem in their £2million home, Miranda took a step back from her commitment, before deciding: “I didn’t need to run away.”

‘I had been vulnerable, but I felt worthy. I had shown him my silliest self, the irritable self, the farting self, the makeup-free self, the tearful self, the deep self. I fully trusted that he was there because he liked me.

The real-life Bridget Jones revealed on the One Show on Tuesday night that she married the surveyor this year at the age of 51 after he proposed to her in Kew Gardens, west London.

The comedian has gone to great lengths not to reveal his identity, referring to him in his new book I Haven’t Been Completely Honest With You as simply ‘The Kid’ or ‘The Mold Man’.

The man, whom he met when he came to fix a mold problem in his £2million home, is described as “a man with graying gray hair on a fine-featured man”.

The comedian first announced the news she is married live on The One Show on Tuesday night after a flurry of rumours.

Speaking to Alex Jones and Alex Scott about her mystery husband, Miranda, 51, declared that “someone has put the ring on her” and revealed that she met “my person” at the age of 49.

Going into detail in her memoir about how she popped the question, the actress explained that her boyfriend suggested the couple go to the gardens for a walk on a “normal January day.”

She wrote: “We stood still on the bridge overlooking the lake when the silence was broken when he said, quite seriously, ‘Miranda’. I turned around and as I did so he knelt. ‘Miranda…’

‘I don’t remember anything else because I just burst into tears, apparently saying yes before he finished the sentence (awkward if I had been tying a shoelace…)’

She wrote emotionally: ‘I didn’t think a traditional proposal would affect me so much.

“But there was someone who knew all my ridiculousness and brokenness and was still willing to lean down, look at me, and commit to loving me and being by my side for the rest of his life.”

Miranda later described her husband as kind, loving and very funny, before dramatically writing: “He’s not my boyfriend.” He is my husband. We got married when I was fifty-one.

During her exciting announcement on The One Show, she gushed: ‘I’m married, I got married at 51 and it’s so lovely!’

“I had written Gary (Tom Ellis) for Miranda on screen and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met the person,” she said, but insisted she would keep her husband’s identity a secret.

“It’s a little backstory in the book, I’m not going to reveal how we met because it’s a little twist. He’s my best friend, we have a lot of fun and I’m delighted to be a young bride at 51.”

The star added that she hoped readers of her book would feel hope from her love story, explaining; ‘The fact that I met someone during a pandemic, during a chronic illness, when I couldn’t get out of bed or leave the house… I really, really wanted to meet someone, I didn’t want to move on with life. mine now.’

“The fact that I was able to meet someone is not some kind of romantic comedy story, but hope. Whatever situation you find yourself in, there is always hope, things really do change.’

The star first opened up about the new man in her life during the publicity for her memoir, joking in her inimitable style that she ‘couldn’t tell if there’s a love story in it… (There is – silence) Exciting.’
