Ice cream connoisseurs have gone to war online, debating who has the best soft serve: Maccas or Hungry Jack’s.

The question was posed by Reddit user Gorstrom on Saturday after they tried Hungry Jack’s version of the classic dessert for the first time.

They explained how until recently Macca’s soft serve cones had been a ‘cheap and lovely’ treat until they tried the competitor’s option.

“I don’t know if it was just luck or if they are always the same, but the HJ soft serve seemed to taste so much better,” wrote Gorstrom.

Other users in the comments section pondered which fast food bar had the superior cream, and Hungry Jack’s backers came out swinging.

Gorstrom explained that Hungry Jack’s cones were ‘much creamier, more flavourful, a bigger portion and sweeter’.

They continued: ‘In comparison, the Maccas soft serves taste watery and insubstantial.’

A majority of those in the comments sided with Gorstrom, praising Hungry Jack’s for their arguably better option.

“HJ doesn’t seem to be drunk on that much sugar and they don’t seem to be stingy with the amount,” one person said.

“Hungry Jacks licks their cows and gives them daily makeovers, hence the better quality,” added another.

The price of each restaurant’s cones came up as the debate progressed, with commentators giving Hungry Jack’s an edge for their cheaper prices.

McDonald’s charges $1.15 for their soft serves, while Hungry Jack’s offers them a little cheaper at $1.

“$1 for a mountain of ice cream, that’s great value,” said one person in favor of Hungry Jack’s.

However, there were naysayers who preferred Macca’s soft serves but insisted that Ronald McDonald was unchallenged in the ice cream department.

“Personally, I’ve always preferred the McDonald’s version,” someone said.

“I’ve found that HJ’s, while the flavor and texture is initially delicious, it gets quite watered down once it starts to melt.”

“Macca’s soft chocolate wipes are the bomb,” said another of their variety of flavours.

“I think the ice cream with HJ is superior, but the chocolate fudge supplied by Macca’s is a recipe given from the council of the gods,” said one person in an attempt to satisfy both parties.

In the end, many people agreed that customers were lucky if they could order soft serve from either location, given how often their machines had broken down.

“Don’t know, gave up trying to get Macca’s soft serve, machine is always broken,” said one.

‘HJs seem to be ‘broken’ or being ‘cleaned’ about 30 per cent of the time,’ added another.
