Miami Fire Rescue said when they arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a third-floor window of the building. The four-story building has more than 30 units and is close to downtown Miami.

All firefighters have been removed from the building and are attempting to put out the fire from the outside.

Two first responders are being treated for heat exhaustion.

According to authorities, residents are being rescued from their balconies while others are evacuated by land.

The Miami Police Department has issued a safety advisory asking people to “refrain from entering or remaining in the vicinity of Lumus Park to avoid any potential harm caused by a nearby apartment fire.”

This is the first 3-alarm fire in the city in 25 years, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said during a press conference.

Residents have been transferred to Parque José Martí, where they will be given food and other essential items.
