Brentford star Ivan Toney is not currently seen by Manchester United as a realistic signing for this summer.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a possible move from west London and has attracted interest from a number of top-flight clubs.

Toney has one year left on his contract with the Bees and there have been no talks over a new deal.

Reports had claimed that Manchester United are interested in signing the striker as the club look to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s attacking options.

Mail Sport understands Toney is not seen as a realistic option at this stage, after Manchester United announced the signing of Joshua Zirkzee on Sunday.

The Red Devils have paid £36.5m for the Netherlands international, more than his £34m release clause at Bologna, and the deal means they can pay the fee over three years rather than in a lump sum.

Following the arrival of Zirkzee, Manchester United are unlikely to go for another striker in this window unless there are significant departures in the forward line.

This would not include Mason Greenwood, with Ligue 1 club Marseille currently leading the chase for the striker.

Manchester United and Marseille have held talks over a £27m deal with a significant resale offer. Serie A side Lazio remain interested in Greenwood.

Toney has made no secret of his ambitions to play for an elite team and even reiterated his desire to do so earlier this year.

In an exclusive interview with Mail Sport, Toney said: ‘Everyone knows I would love to play for a top team and be at the top of the leagues, playing with the best.

“I’m a Brentford player at the moment and until that time comes, whether it’s in this window or at the end of the season or whenever it happens, so be it, but right now I’m a Brentford player and that’s my focus.”

The England striker is unlikely to move unless Manchester United make significant sales during the summer.

Toney is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024, where he made a significant impact against Slovakia to help the Three Lions on their way to the final.

While Manchester United have sealed the signing of Zirkzee and continue their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, the club and Erik ten Hag also fancy another Dutchman in Xavi Simons.

The club are yet to confirm their interest in the 21-year-old, who scored against England in the Euro 2024 semi-final on Wednesday.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is expected to move to Germany, with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig among the interested clubs.
