Manchester United have confirmed that Ruud Van Nistelrooy has left the club after holding talks with new manager Ruben Amorim on Monday.
The club legend has overseen a four-game unbeaten run as caretaker manager since replacing Erik ten Hag and admitted he was keen to remain in that role after Sunday’s 3-0 Premier League win over Leicester.
Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford in the summer after his former boss Erik ten Hag convinced him to take on the assistant role and then temporarily replace his compatriot before Amorim’s arrival.
A large proportion of United fans who witnessed the 48-year-old’s emotional and tearful performance at the Stretford End on Sunday hoped it would not be the last time they saw him on the bench – but it is not the last time. . That is the case.
Amorim had the final say on whether he wanted to add the Dutchman to his team and ultimately decided against it with Van Nistelrooy leaving the club.
