Lucy Beaumont and Jon Richardson announced their decision to divorce in April after nine years of marriage, but a resurfaced story has revealed their relationship may have been doomed from the start.

Speaking on couples show Ultimate Worrier in 2018, Lucy, 41, revealed her honeymoon was a bad omen as the newlyweds witnessed a group stabbing while sharing a dinner.

The Ultimate Warrior format involved Jon bringing in guests to help him sort through his many concerns.

Lucy explained on the show that they rented a car and drove around the United States, and Jon looked at the map and decided to book a hotel in Santa Cruz.

“Then I looked up information on Santa Cruz and I have the worst homicide rate in the entire United States,” he said.

“Worse than Los Angeles, it’s the most dangerous place in the world. I told Jon about it and he said he had already booked it.

‘So we went into a falafel bar and sat by the window, looking out to sea and I thought, “It’s starting to get late, things are changing a bit.”

‘Anyway, a gang showed up and one of them got stabbed in the chest. I looked at Jon and he didn’t show any emotion. It was like I was watching two pigeons fighting and I was in shock.’

“I said, ‘Oh, I can’t eat this.’ Then Jon ate my falafel too and I said, ‘Does that bother you?'”

Lucy suspected that Jon’s lack of reaction was because he didn’t want to admit that he had chosen a terrible, unsafe place to stay and downplayed the stabbing.

“All because I didn’t want to admit that we were in a dangerous place,” Lucy added.

The couple, who share one daughter and married in April 2015, announced they were splitting nine years earlier, the same month as their wedding day.

Jon has also handed over £1.625million to Lucy since they ended their nine-year marriage in April.

The couple starred together on the mockumentary-style show Meet the Richardsons for seven years and amassed a fortune of £6m.

But documents from a company they had run together reveal that in June, two months after their split, Jon paid Lucy £1.625m for her shares in a company they had run together.

Jon even had to pay HMRC £8,125 in stamp duty after buying his share in the business This Guy at Night Limited.

According to recently filed accounts, the company was worth £4m last year and the couple are still listed as co-owners of two properties.

They co-own a £1m detached house with a swimming pool in Yorkshire and a £1m flat in a posh part of north London.

They began dating in 2013 after meeting through their friend Roisin Conaty and worked together on several shows including Meet The Richardsons.

In April, in a joint statement, the couple said: ‘After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated.

“We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.”
