A couple looking to extend their family home on Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location were slammed by viewers last night as “fussy” and “miserable”.
Primary school teacher Suki and consultant Kuli were looking for a larger family home for their three daughters near Halifax and Huddersfield in West Yorkshire.
Their current property had three bedrooms, but as Kuli worked from home in one of them, her three daughters were forced to share a room.
As a result, host Phil Spencer was tasked with finding his dream family home with an open ground floor for accommodation and four bedrooms with a budget of £400,000.
But despite Phil’s best efforts and viewing four houses, Suki and Kuli were dissatisfied with the houses and ultimately declined to make an offer on any of them.
Suki and Kuli appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Location Location Location to find their new family home, but viewers called them “fussy” and “miserable.”
This week, for the second episode of the series, Phil and co-presenter Kirstie Allsopp visited West Yorkshire, a popular area with an average house price of £201,000, but where prices have increased by 13 per cent in the last two years.
For Suki and Kuli, a £370,000 detached house in Bradley seemed to be the perfect option at first glance, with four bedrooms, a kitchen/dining room and a secluded child-friendly garden.
But despite the spacious double master bedroom, the couple concluded the other three bedrooms were “too small”.
Responding to Phil, they added that it was not their “prime location” and said the garden, although child-friendly, was “a bit on a slope”.
A second house in Elland also had rooms deemed “too small”, to which a frustrated Phil commented in his voiceover: “I didn’t realize I was looking for four double bedrooms.”
The £400,000 property had a double garage, a modern kitchen, a conservatory, four double bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom, and a large rear garden.
But it still didn’t fit, and Kuli insisted: “One of the bedrooms is a little small.”
A third property in Fixby, Huddersfield, was rejected as a new build because it “lacked character” and potential buyers simply didn’t “get that feel”, despite having the required four double bedrooms.
PROPERTY ONE: Suki and Kuli said the kitchen/dining space would not be big enough to entertain their guests.
Despite having four bedrooms, they said one of the smaller doubles would not be big enough for their children.
PROPERTY TWO: Despite having a bar and plenty of space, they said the garden was not child-friendly.
PROPERTY THREE: Suki and Kuli liked the size of the rooms and garden, but said the new build “lacked character.”
Finally, Phil showed them a large house in Wilden, which was close to where they currently live. He told them it was “the closest thing he could get” and that there was nothing else on the market that fit his needs.
Suki and Kuli said they were “much happier” with the property, but after a second viewing they again declined to make an offer because they were “not sure.”
Despite not finding their dream home, they told Phil that the experience had taught them that they would have to learn to “compromise” in the future.
However, viewers were quick to point out the irony that they had turned down houses much more spacious than their current situation.
PROPERTY FOUR: The couple said the last house they looked at was “much nicer” than the others.
Although they liked the master bedroom (pictured), the couple was still “unsure” and ultimately did not make an offer.
Viewers also criticized the couple for not smiling and looking “miserable” throughout the show.
They said: ‘FFS, the couple with the 3 children is moving out of a house where the 3 children share a bedroom and they are complaining about the size of the bedrooms, the woman is pissing me off’;
‘There is miserable, and then there is MISERABLE’;
‘An infuriating episode of #locationlocationlocation this week. Don’t think a lady smiled at all. They didn’t seem to want to give in anything. What did you expect?’;
‘Family absolute waste of time’;
“How long will it take this couple to reach an agreement?” added another along with a meme from the movie Titanic that said “it’s been 84 years.”
Others said: ‘Haha. These two will never find anything’;
‘Send this couple south and let them see how lucky they are’;
‘You have to love super demanding clients’;
‘What does this couple want for £400,000?…’ a mansion???’
Viewers were quick to point out the irony that they had turned down homes much more spacious than their current situation.
However, Phil’s co-host Kirstie Allsopp had much better luck finding a property for first-time buyers Ellie and Joe in north Leeds.
The NHS workers, who currently rent in Chappell Allerton, had a maximum budget of £250,000 for their first home.
They were also looking to expand and add storage for all their belongings.
Kirstie found them the perfect property in Farsley with three bedrooms and a basement for storage, and they accepted an offer for £235,000.
Emily burst into tears and said she had “no words” to express how happy she was, while even Kirstie was touched by the couple’s happiness.
