Liverpool have stepped up talks to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Mail Sport revealed earlier this week that the Anfield club were exploring the opportunity to sign one of Europe’s best goalkeepers with the intention of initially sending him elsewhere on loan.
Bournemouth had been mentioned as a possible destination but Liverpool cannot buy him on loan from another Premier League club because it would breach the rules.
Various permutations are being discussed as Liverpool doubt Mamardashvili will ever become Alisson’s number two.
The Brazilian remains Liverpool’s first-choice and is likely to remain so for the next two seasons, but the club are keen to take the opportunity to sign a goalkeeper of Mamardashvili’s calibre.

Caoimhin Kelleher could also leave this window as he yearns for regular first-team football, which would add another complication to the discussions.
No offer had been submitted as of Tuesday evening but Liverpool remain intent on signing the player in the coming weeks and finding a solution on where he will play his football this season.
Staying on loan at Valencia is also an option.
Meanwhile, QPR remain in talks to sign Owen Beck from Liverpool on loan. Red Bull Leipzig are discussing an improved offer for Bobby Clark and Leicester remain interested in winger Ben Doak, who has interest from other Premier League and Championship sides.
