Lin Yu-Ting is guaranteed to leave Paris with an Olympic medal after winning her featherweight quarter-final against Bulgaria’s Svetlana Staneva.

The Taiwanese boxer has been at the centre of an eligibility row in recent days after being disqualified from last year’s World Championships alongside Algeria’s Imane Khelif when the pair were found to have failed gender tests.

However, she put that behind her in her opening match to advance to the quarterfinals, and she again demonstrated her skills on Sunday morning to advance to the semifinals.

After a close first round, Yu-Ting began to dominate the fight and her Bulgarian opponent seemed to give up in the final seconds of the fight, as she refused to throw any punches.

He won by unanimous decision and is now in a position to win at least a bronze medal in the French capital.

The verdict was accepted by Staneva, who made no complaints as the scores were read out.

Her reaction was completely different from that of Yu-Ting’s first opponent in Paris. Sitora Turdibekova left the ring in tears after receiving several heavy blows during her three-round fight with Yu-Ting.
