Kevin Walters has reportedly been sacked by the Brisbane Broncos.
News Corp reports the Broncos have cut ties with their manager following a club-wide review into the team’s shocking slump in the 2024 season, in which they finished 12th.
Walters was given his leave orders on Thursday night, and the club terminated his contract which was set to expire in 2026.
Broncos chairman Karl Morris told News Corp: “We’re deeply sorry to hear about Kev.
‘He will always be a respected guy and a Broncos legend and will always be treated as such.
“Of course I’m surprised. It’s a huge job and under pressure for the Broncos.
“We greatly appreciate Kevvie’s efforts and wish him all the best.”
The Broncos’ player group learned of Walters’ fate on Thursday night, the report added.
Walters is a Brisbane legend who has won five championships during his glittering playing career with the club where he made 241 premiership appearances.
He replaced Anthony Seibold in 2021 and led the club from bottom of the NRL standings to second in the Premier League last year.
We will continue to report more.
