A bestselling novelist has claimed that Justin Timberlake’s arrest and humiliation is karmic revenge for his treatment of Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.
Jennifer Weiner, best known for her book ‘In Her Shoes,’ which was made into a movie starring Cameron Diaz, said she was enjoying Timberlake’s embarrassment in a New York Times opinion article.
On Tuesday, he was arrested on suspicion of DWI while driving to spend the night at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor. To make matters worse, the police officer who arrested Timberlake had no idea who the 43-year-old singer was when he protested a court case affecting his tour.
Weinfer, 54, said the former NSYNC band member’s fall from grace has been a long time coming after he easily escaped two infamous controversies that severely damaged Spears and Jackson.
In 1999, Spears and Timberlake confirmed their relationship and quickly became loved by their multitudes of fans.
Jennifer Weiner has claimed in a new op-ed that Justin Timberlake’s arrest and humiliation is karmic revenge for his treatment of Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.
But in 2002, the couple separated and controversy broke out. In a series of music videos including ‘Cry Me A River’ and suggestive interviews, Timberlake hinted that Spears had cheated on him, leading to their split.
At the time, Timberlake’s claims sparked a massive backlash toward the ‘Criminal’ singer to the point that Diane Sawyer tearfully asked Spears, ‘Did you do something that caused her so much pain.’ So much suffering. What did you do?’ in a 2003 interview.
It was in 2023, with the publication of Spears’ memoir, that fans learned that Timberlake was the one who cheated on her and dumped her via text message.
In the same book, she also revealed that during their relationship, she became pregnant and it was Timberlake who insisted on having an abortion.
Spears also said that while she was writhing on the bathroom floor due to pain, he was playing his guitar.

But Timberlake and Spears’ relationship and subsequent drama isn’t the only notable controversy in her career.
In 2004, Timberlake was on stage performing with Jackson during his Super Bowl halftime show.
At one point during the choreography, the boy band alum was supposed to remove a panel of her bra, but instead she ripped off a large piece of her costume, exposing her chest on live television.
In the following days, Jackson was condemned and disinvited from the Grammys for the ‘wardrobe malfunction’, which was held a week after the incident.
While Jackson received public criticism for the incident, Timberlake won best male pop vocal performance at the awards.
While Jackson was the target of public criticism for the incident, Timberlake won best male pop vocal performance at the Grammys.
In his more than 20-year career, Timberlake has also been accused of appropriating traditionally black music but failing to defend social problems that affect black people.
Critics of the ‘Mirrors’ singer, as well as fans of female pop stars, have celebrated Timberlake’s recent arrest and humiliation, but Weiner suggests that he will once again come out of this unscathed, because he is a white man.
“Part of me wants to believe that if the Teflon-coated rich white guy is no longer so able to charm his way out of trouble, a major radical cultural shift might be underway,” Weiner wrote.
Weiner predicted that, as always, the singer will get “fine” and continue to reap the benefits of being a white man in America.
To back up his claims, Weiner cited Timberlake’s “fake apology” to Jackson and Spears.
After the release of Spears’ memoir, the 43-year-old took to social media and expressed his regret over what happened.
“I want to specifically apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, both individually, because I care about and respect these women and I know I failed.
“I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and, most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be a part of and grow from,” the musician wrote.
But during a concert in New York in January, Timberlake clarified that he had “absolutely apologized to no one.”
In the end, Weiner predicted that, as always, the singer will get “fine” and continue to reap the benefits of being a white man in America.
Last night he broke his silence and publicly addressed his arrest.
Justin will also make stops in additional cities including Boston, Baltimore and Cleveland before beginning international dates in late July. The tour is scheduled to end on December 20 in Kansas City, just before Christmas.
He opened to his fans at Chicago’s United Center Stadium on Friday as he resumed his Forget Tomorrow world tour.
The singer was arrested Tuesday after enjoying a night out with friends at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, but has since claimed he only had one drink during the course of the night.
“It’s been a tough week,” Timberlake told the crowd. “I know it’s hard to love me sometimes, but you keep loving me back.”
Additionally, he sent love to his fans in attendance, stating that they have all faced “ups and downs, lefts and rights.”
After the arrest, a source recently said People In an article published on Friday the singer was “freaking out” while in custody, as it is also claimed that he is struggling with the end of his “golden boy image”.
“He was mad and stayed up all night when he was in custody. He insists he only had one drink and it wasn’t a crazy night.
DailyMail.com has contacted Timberlake representatives and has yet to receive a response.
Justin has maintained that he only had one drink the night of the incident. According to his arrest report, after being detained, he told the officer, who did not recognize him: “I had a martini and followed my friends home.”
This comes as the pop star is reportedly struggling with the end of his “golden boy image” and feeling like his career is not where he hoped it would be at the moment.
The father of two, who has won more than 10 Grammy Awards since rising to fame as one of the lead vocalists of the boy band NSYNC, has had a difficult year as an artist.
His latest single, Everything I Thought It Was, marked his first solo release that didn’t reach the number one spot on the charts since his track, Justified, was released in 2002.
Additionally, sales of their The Forget Tomorrow world tour have been described as “mediocre”.
