On Saturday, May 25, at around 3:25 a.m., Wactor had been leaving his side job at a “cathedral-style” nightclub called Sinners and Santos in downtown Los Angeles with his co-worker, Anita Joy.

He noticed three men, all wearing masks, standing near his vehicle, which was supported by a jack. The actor thought the car was being towed and, as he approached the attackers, one of them pointed his gun at him.

Wactor was transported by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. According to police, the three men quickly fled the scene in another vehicle.

Relatives previously told DailyMail.com that the “southern gentleman” had been escorting Joy to her vehicle at the time and shielded her with his body when the trio of robbers opened fire.

In a series of Instagram posts recalling his heroic final moments, Joy referred to Wactor as her friend of “eight years” and described how he “fought to stay alive” before dying in her arms.

“It all happened in an instant,” Joy wrote. “I’ve come to describe it as a glass of water that tips over and you’re struggling to grab it and stop it from spilling all over, but it just slips through your fingertips and disappears.

‘Johnny was between me and the man who shot him. When I heard the shot in the night, he fell hard into my arms and when I grabbed him, I screamed, “Honey, are you okay?”

‘And he just said, ‘No! They shot!’ We fell to the street, where I pushed my legs out from under him and tried to hold his body up as I screamed for help and yelled at him to stay with me.’

Joy went on to say that a bouncer at the bar where they worked ran over and performed CPR on her, but it was too late.

“The wound was too close and too severe for him to survive. But, my God, he fought to stay,” she wrote.

Joy also revealed that staff at the downtown Los Angeles nightclub complained about the lack of safe parking spaces for night workers after a spate of violent crimes in the area.
