President Joe Biden, former Commander in Chief Barack Obama and NBA legend LeBron James lead congratulations for South Carolina women’s basketball after the Gamecocks defeated Iowa and Caitlin Clark in the national championship game on Sunday.
In a rematch of last season’s Final Four, where the Hawkeyes handed the Gamecocks their only loss of the season two games shy of a perfect season, South Carolina avenged that loss to lift a second national championship in three seasons.
Iowa led by as many as 11 points early in the game, but couldn’t overcome the Gamecocks’ depth.
At South Carolina, seven players scored at least six points, and four players scored in double figures.
Clark scored 30 points in her final college game as she will likely be the No. 1 overall pick in this month’s WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever.
South Carolina completed a perfect season by defeating Iowa on Sunday in the title game.

The Gamecocks’ closest call to losing this season came in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, needing a 3-pointer from Kamilla Cardoso before the buzzer to defeat Tennessee.
South Carolina found a way and finished the year 38-0.
