Janey Godley has revealed that having to tell her autistic daughter Ashley that she had cancer was the “worst part” of her ordeal.
The Scottish comedian, 63, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021 and, following chemotherapy, is now receiving palliative care and end-of-life care in hospital.
She has told in a new interview how difficult it was to break the hard news to Ashley, 38, a comedian and radio star, because she is a “catastrophist”.
Janey said The times: ‘The worst part was having to tell Ashley. She has always been a catastrophist; Telling him that was like throwing a hand grenade at him.
‘I tell Ashley that she will probably feel a sense of relief once it’s finally over and I’m dead: no more chemo, no more hair loss, no more vomiting, no more worrying. And she just said, ‘Oh, damn, I’ve been waiting for that to happen for years!’

He also spoke sweetly of Ashley: “She is my greatest success in life and I am so proud of her.” The worst thing about her dying is not being able to see her. I can’t imagine being a spirit and not having her in my orbit.’
Janey shares Ashley with her husband Sean Storrie, with whom she recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
It comes after Janey shared the touching moment she was reunited with her beloved dachshund earlier this weekend.
She took to X to post adorable snaps of her pet Honey as she continues to receive end-of-life care for her cancer in hospice.
The sweet clip of their reunion showed Janey’s dog jumping on her bed, happy to see her owner. The mirror reported.
The friendly dachshund seemed delighted to be back with the star and pounced on her full of excitement.
Janey then wrapped Honey in a green blanket as she settled her into her room.

The Glasgow-born comedian revealed that he was nearing the end of his battle with terminal cancer in a heartbreaking update about his illness last month.
The monologue told fans that she would receive palliative care for ovarian cancer and enter hospice in a video shared on social media.
“Chemo ran out of options and I just couldn’t take it anymore and the cancer has spread,” she told her followers to an outpouring of love and support.
“So it seems like this is coming almost to the end and it’s really hard to talk about this and tell people.”
In early September she announced that she had been forced to cancel her upcoming UK tour due to ongoing treatment.
In the video, she continued: “It’s devastating news to know that I’m facing the end of my life, but we all come to an end at some point.”
‘I want to thank everyone for supporting the family, especially (daughter) Ashley and my husband.
‘The overwhelming support has been incredible and I don’t know how long I have left before someone asks. I’m not a TikTok.
‘So I just want you to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve given me and all the support. Cancer affects two out of every person and it has affected me.’
She also thanked the charities that supported her throughout her health journey.
Last week, Janey revealed that Liam Neeson had finally received the handmade scarf he promised she would knit him.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Janey shared snaps of Liam wrapped in the colorful gift while writing: “Liam Neeson’s scarf has arrived in New York and he loves it.”
The Scottish star revealed last March during her BBC podcast, The C Bomb, that she was knitting a scarf for Liam after discovering he was a fan of her voiceover sketches.
She joked at the time: “He’ll need to get it before I die, that’s for sure.”
During the pandemic, Janey gained viral recognition for her voiceovers of videos of politicians on television, for example Nicola Sturgeon or Boris Johnson.
The star then did a voiceover for Liam’s famous scene in Taken where he says, “I have a special set of skills.” You have my daughter. I’m coming for you.

And seven months later, the scarf found its way into the hands of Liam, who looked very happy as he kissed the knitted garment.
