Investigation to begin into in-custody death of man who was 'acting erratically' during routine welfare check

Queensland Police will launch an internal investigation after a man died in custody on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to Alice Street in Maryborough, south-east Queensland, at around 11.50am to carry out a welfare check.

Police say they were responding to reports of a man in his 30s acting erratically before being restrained.

The man was sedated and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police said he suffered a medical episode and died a short time later.

The incident will be investigated by the Queensland Police Ethics Standards Command.
