The Scissors tent, Glastonbury's first lesbian zone, is new for 2024 and will replace the iconic 'Rabbit Hole' nightclub.

Glastonbury 2024 has started with a bang, with tens of thousands of festival-goers flocking to Worthy Farm in Somerset.

And amid fears that the festival may no longer be as “cool” as it once was, organizers have changed things up with two new venues.

These include the Scissors tent, Glastonbury’s first lesbian zone, described as a “queer wonderland”.

The femme-queer pop-up includes a hair salon, a beer garden with a pool table and even a secret nightclub.

It is replacing the festival’s iconic “secret” nightclub, The Rabbit Hole, where attendees including Prince Harry once partied all night, but the area has now been removed after 17 years.

The Glastonbury rabbit hole was an area that most attendees were on a mission to visit, having heard rumors of celebrities such as David Beckham and Kate Moss getting up to mischief in the ‘secret area’.

But Scissors has left behind the drinking and dancing associated with The Rabbit Hole. Instead, patrons can use the space to relax or get a free haircut.

The space will also host speakers to discuss topics such as queer vulnerability, with Ruby Rare, who appears on E4’s Sex Rated, joining a panel on Thursday afternoon.

The Glastonbury Festival website calls Scissors: ‘An absolutely delightful femme-queer place where anything can (and does!) happen.’

The description adds: ‘Head to Scissors for a cut, or just come enjoy some of the daily chats, then sneak out the back to discover a strange wonderland.’

Throughout the day, guests will be able to attend talks and workshops, including a Q&A session with Murder On The Dancefloor singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

There will be DJ sets and entertainment throughout the night after the headliners have finished their performances.

Kiki’s nightclub, with an entrance next to a striking strip club sign reading ‘Girls Girls Girls’, has a lineup that includes Porij, Pxssy Palace, Queer House Party and Cocoa Butter Club.

It is meant to be a welcoming area for people to relax and provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ communities.

While some will undoubtedly be sad to see the end of the iconic Rabbit Hole era, many praised the festival for its decision to encourage inclusivity.

Reaction to the announcement on Instagram was overwhelmingly positive, with festival-goers writing: “Just found my new base”;

‘We are very excited!!!’

‘The best ad so far’

“This is really amazing, there isn’t enough space for queer women in general! I love seeing this .”

This year’s event will feature standout performances from global stars including pop singer Dua Lipa, British rock band Coldplay and American soul singer Sza, while Canadian country star Shania Twain will take the coveted spot at the legends.
