Sam Kerr has rubbished a rumour about her return to football, with the Matildas superstar indicating she is in no rush to get back on the pitch following her ACL injury.
The 30-year-old Chelsea striker ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while at a training camp in Morocco in early January and is still on the sidelines just days before the new Women’s Super League season gets underway.
It typically takes six to nine months to recover from an ACL tear, but professional athletes often take longer to regain their strength and fitness.
Kerr, who has injured his ACL twice, is under no pressure to prove himself on the court.
On Sunday, Kerr responded to an online post suggesting she would be fit by October, writing: “I don’t know who gave you this information, but it is unfortunately incorrect.”
The Matildas captain did not answer any further questions about her recovery, but did give a recent interview to Optus Sport.
“The injury is good,” Kerr said.
‘I’m not going to put a date on when I’ll be back, just make sure I’m doing well and feeling good before I get back on the field.

‘I mean, it’s my second ACL injury, so I know you have to take your time, make sure I’m okay and I’m doing everything I can.
“But for me there is no rush, I want to make sure I can play for many more years.”
Kerr said it had been a struggle watching Chelsea secure a fifth consecutive WSL title and the Matildas exit the World Cup early.
“You always want to be there, it’s always a shame to miss games, obviously the end of the season and then definitely the Olympics,” Kerr said.
The Chelsea striker ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament during a training camp in Morocco in early January.
“It’s been really tough not being able to have any kind of impact on the games, the league or the Olympics. But I knew that was going to happen, to be honest, so it’s been tough, but it’s part of the sport.”
Outside of football, Kerr is accused of allegedly racially harassing a police officer during a drunken night out in London in January 2023.
The Mail exclusively revealed that the 30-year-old was charged and pleaded not guilty on March 4 this year, with the four-day criminal trial scheduled for February 2025.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the incident, which took place on January 30, 2023, was sparked by a dispute over a taxi fare before Kerr allegedly used insulting, threatening or abusive words that caused alarm or distress to the officer.
