An American woman living in the UK has revealed all the “weird” things about British life, including “toxic men” and “a lot of goths”.
Burkleigh, who moved to the UK from Texas to study Marine Biology, often posts on TikTok under the name @iloveolives2002and has racked up more than 350,000 views on a clip where he lists all the quirks he’s caught.
The university student told her followers: ‘Okay, I’ve been living in the UK for like three years and I feel like one of the main differences that people always talk about between the states and the UK is the weather or the meal. .
“But there are a lot of really strange social anomalies, or at least differences, between the UK and Texas, that I just didn’t expect.”
The first thing Burkleigh noticed is that there are more alternative or “goth” people in the UK.

She explained: “To start with, there are a lot of goths and yes, there are goths in the states or at least in Texas, but they travel in packs, in groups of three.
‘There’s a gothic-themed Christmas market, there’s gothic-themed disco nights.
“They’re the nicest people you’ll ever meet, but it’s like there’s a big community and they’re so loved and appreciated.”
Secondly, it confirmed the long-standing stereotype that Brits can drink a lot, from a younger age.
The TikToker said: ‘It’s another thing if you consider yourself the heavyweight of your group of friends or you’re someone who started drinking young.’
“I would say that most Americans start drinking when they are 15 or 16 and it is illegally in a part of the house where an older friend may have brought White Claws.
“If you had that experience, you probably started very well: many people don’t even get to drink until they’re 18 or 21, when it’s legal.”
US native Burkleigh, who posts on TikTok under the name @iloveolives2002, has racked up more than 350,000 views on a clip in which she lists all the quirks she’s acquired.
‘Don’t drink with Brits. They pick up the bottle at 12 and never leave it again.’
Continuing his list, he revealed: “And this might be Europe in general, but I think it stands out a lot more to the British, just because of their humor and their willingness to say whatever.”
“There’s a kind of tough, abrasive love feeling I get from my British friends, but they literally think Americans are the dumbest people on Earth.”
Laughing, he adds: “They really, literally, spend all their time laughing at our politics, laughing at our culture, laughing at our media, laughing at our celebrities who do stupid things.”
‘And it’s like we don’t realize it because we’re a little ignorant.
‘The only thing we care about when it comes to British people is their accent, so we don’t know how stupid the rest of the world thinks we are and don’t care.
‘Maybe it’s a problem we should work on. But I don’t know, I definitely noticed it.’
Brits quickly flocked to the comments to debate whether Burkleigh’s views were correct; some agreed and others wondered if they lived in the same UK.
Moving on to drugs, Burkleigh says: ‘Again, this is only comparable to my experience in Texas, so it might be the same in Miami or Los Angeles, but the drug culture is crazy in the UK.
‘The amount of horse tranquilizer these people shove up their noses is enough to kill a literal horse.
“I didn’t even know it was a drug that people used recreationally and I think it’s really only popular in the UK.”
She asks, “Let me know, I don’t think it’s big in any state in America.”
He then tells his fellow Americans that Brits walk everywhere, no matter what time of day.
She told viewers: “I think people know that in Europe walking is a very important thing and in America it’s just not as easy because of the infrastructure, the highways and the attention we put on cars.”
‘But I don’t think you know how willing the British are to walk, despite having very good public transport, or at least better public transport than in Texas.
“It’s not unusual for a friend to walk an hour home on a night out just because they don’t want to spend the money on a taxi: an hour home, drunk at night, crazy.”
Finally, the American compares her experiences dating men in the UK to those in her home country in the US, and American men come out on top for her.
“The average 20-year-old Brit will have a body count of 22,” he boldly states.
‘They’re worse than the frat boy who just broke your heart, I promise. I don’t know what they put in the water to make these men grow the way they are, but some of them are animals.’
The student admits, “I’m sure they’ll get over it in time and it’s probably a bit of a stereotype too, but I don’t know.” From what I’ve seen, crazy.

Referring to the American claim that Brits walk everywhere, a third viewer wrote: “But isn’t an hour that long? It takes me about an hour to walk to school.’
Another agreed: ‘The drunken walk home is iconic. Walking home in the cold for an hour, eating cheese fries and drinking a bottle of Fanta. You’re basically sober when you’re home and your hangover is less lethal.
Someone else chimed in and said, “Drunk, running home, that was the one.” Sometimes a bus would take 15 to 20 minutes, so we would run a good 3 or 4 miles until the bus caught up with us.’
Meanwhile, another joked: “It’s not that we don’t want to pay for a taxi, it’s just that we spent all our money on alcohol and horse tranquilizers so now we’re broke and have to walk home.”
In line with the TikToker’s comments about British men, a woman from the United Kingdom joked: “No, they don’t age out.” A British girl is dating a man from Texas and I can’t stand British men.
Someone else noted: “As a goth who doesn’t live in Brighton, goth and alternative is UNIQUE there.”
One viewer recalled: The ‘British kids’ first drink is around 1 or 2 p.m. in a field with your friends and a bottle of Glenn’s (cheap vodka) best nights. Put up a speaker and you’ll have a party.
Another Brit agreed, admitting: “We started drinking at 13 and 14 and stopped at 21.”
