Women may be subconsciously attracted to the “bad boy” more than the “good guy” for a very simple evolutionary reason.
Marriage therapist David Perl has stated that women are attracted to partners who might have a better chance of having strong offspring.
The ‘bad boy’ is usually the Alpha male, he has a strong and confident demeanor that influences a woman’s taste in men during ovulation.
It’s an evolutionary process that arises from a woman’s need to find the man with “the best seed, the best DNA, the best chance of having a really strong, healthy baby,” Perl said.
Evolution has led women to unconsciously strive to find the “most powerful man” for reproduction, which historically has been the Alpha male, according to Perl, who owns “The Marriage Therapist” practice with his wife, Ruth.
This is part of the “good genes hypothesis” which suggests that women chose their partners based on who had the best genetic qualities to produce children who had a strong survival rate.
Unfortunately, these types of men don’t stick around, leading women to move on to the “nice guy” because “they need someone to provide for them and protect them to give their offspring the best chance at success,” Perl said in a video from TikTok. .
“I think this goes back to the way we have evolved in general and this is not something that women do consciously, but what they are looking for is the best opportunity for their eggs to be fertilized and then survive,” she added.
In 2012, researchers at the University of Texas-San Antonio reported Similar findings showed that women’s ovulation period motivated them to find someone they wouldn’t normally gravitate toward.
“Under the hormonal influence of ovulation, women delude themselves into thinking that sexy bad boys will become devoted companions and better parents,” Kristina Durante, lead author of the study, said at the time.
“When I looked at the sexy scoundrel through the ovulation glasses, Mr. Wrong looked exactly like Mr. Right.”
Evolution has led women to unconsciously strive to find the “most powerful male” for reproduction.
Researchers asked women to view online dating profiles of sexy, trustworthy men during their on- and off-ovulation periods and were asked to select which man they believed would have better paternal contribution.
During ovulation, women said that the “sexy” man would contribute more to household tasks such as taking care of the child, cooking, shopping for food, and helping with housework.
“When asked what kind of father the sexy bad boy would be if he had children with another woman, women were quick to point out the bad boy’s flaws,” Durante said.
“But when it came to their own child, ovulating women believed that the charismatic, adventurous scoundrel would be a great father to their children.”
This compares to a separate 2010 year. study which found that women chose nice guys as long-term partners, rating men who were altruistic as more attractive and revealing that they prefer sensitive, calm and self-confident men.
‘Because [the bad boy] doesn’t stay close, [women] “Look for the best guy, which is the good guy that’s usually going to stay with them,” Perl said in the video.
“Provide and protect, take care of the children, and that’s how we’ve evolved,” he continued, adding, “And don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger.”
