A mum was left with a lot more work to do than she expected after moving into her new home and discovering the previous owners had taken some serious shortcuts.

Posting on a home decor page, the UK-based mum explained that the previous owners had painted the living room a striking dark grey.

But instead of moving the furniture to do the job properly, they just painted around it and left it like that.

When they moved out they took their things and left huge white stains on the walls.

“Obviously we need to redecorate, but we will never find a painting that matches this painting,” he said.

He continued asking for wallpaper recommendations so he wouldn’t have to match or cover up the dodgy paint job, but people were too distracted debating the paint job to help.

‘What the hell, who does that?’ one woman asked, garnering 7,500 likes.

“Lazy people who want to sell their house quickly,” said another.

“My friend painted around the light switch plate and I was floored… but this is next level,” added a third.

Some suggested the paint job should have been disclosed in the house contract.

“I’d get back to the agent real quick,” one said.

“It’s not classy to sell a house without mentioning something like this,” said another.

Others defended the efforts of the home’s last owner.

“Older people can’t move furniture,” one person said.

Another explained that they had done the same thing at home, on the recommendation of their stylist.

Dozens of people commented that they had moved into properties in similar conditions.
