When Kristine Satorre was fired in January 2023, she had no backup plan.
On a whim, she decided to change industries completely and start over in the wedding industry, where she now earns $100,000 a year with a very peculiar premise.
The 28-year-old from Sydney attends strangers’ weddings to capture candid moments using her iPhone 12 Pro Max and Canon G7X.
Kristine told FEMAIL that the business started by “accident” and grew out of the three years of content creation experience she had at the time.
“I saw a video on TikTok with a couple in the US who embraced the concept and I really enjoyed the idea, especially as someone who creates content and appreciates the idea of casual, candid moments,” she said.
“After some late-night pillow talk on a Saturday night discussing the business idea with my partner, he created The Modern Bride’s Best Friend.”

‘I am not a replacement photographer or videographer. It’s very important to me to focus on a guest’s point of view, so I get out of the way and capture candid moments that you may not have known about or would have forgotten,” said Kristine.

‘Our goal is to congratulate them by showing the view of an external third party: someone who was also there to experience the day!
“That means carefully placing my equipment and staying out of the way while they work.”

The initial cost of setting up the business was low as she didn’t need to purchase any other equipment, but she gave up her time to attend weddings, bridal showers and bridal showers for free to build her portfolio.
“I really needed a lot of self-reliance, confidence and passion to continually learn and adapt to the industry,” Kristine said.
But the hard work paid off when she started getting attention from brides after some viral videos on TikTok.
In one year, Kristine had to expand her team, which has already covered 60 weddings, along with three proposals and a handful of corporate events.
The road to earning six figures in one year hasn’t been easy: Kristine still works up to 80 hours a week and needs to give up her Saturdays to attend weddings.
