From chicken fried steak to lobster and sausage, one food enthusiast has revealed some of America’s “weirdest” roadside restaurants.
Dylan HuynhFrom California, he embarked on a road trip from Dallas to Austin, Texas, in an attempt to see what weird and wonderful restaurants he could find.
In an introduction to a YouTube video documenting his trip, he explains: ‘Every time I go on a road trip, there are always huge billboards advertising restaurants in the middle of nowhere.
“I’ve never stopped to try one of these places, but I’ve always wondered if these restaurants are any good. So today I’m going on a road trip from Dallas, Texas, to Austin and I’m going to try any interesting restaurant I see on a billboard to find out if it’s worth the stop.”
As he sets out on his road trip, Dylan notices that he also sees many billboards for “car accident lawyers” interspersed with advertisements for food stops.

“I’d never heard of this restaurant before, which makes it exactly the type of restaurant I want to try,” Dylan says as he approaches the Cajun-inspired Texas restaurant.
As for his rating criteria, the content creator says he’ll judge each restaurant on three things: “the food, the ambiance, and the accuracy of their signage.”
Since it’s Wednesday, go for the daily special, which is the “best-selling dish,” containing 0.5 pounds of peeled shrimp, a bunch of snow crabs, a lobster tail, a red potato, a corn on the cob, and several sauces for $32.99.
To wash it down, opt for a root beer from the soda machine.
Before receiving his food, Dylan praises the restaurant’s ambiance, with a waterfront outdoor area as a bonus, and says the menu accurately reflects the billboard.
After tasting the food, he concludes: “This might be the best seafood you can get on any roadside in Texas.”
Of all the flavours, he says that sausages are the best choice as they have a juicy flavour. Overall, Tejun scores three points.

Dylan stopped by Big Al’s, where he was promised karaoke and sports, but was kicked out for an unknown reason.
While Dylan was feeling pretty full from his giant plate, he spotted his next food-themed billboard on the side of the road about 10 minutes later.
This ad directs you to the Big Al’s Down The Hatch site in the small town of Waxahachie.
However, shortly after entering the restaurant and bar, Dylan is thrown out for filming.
Because of the strange interaction, Big Al’s gets no points from Dylan. Before heading off on his way again, the content creator says in disbelief, ‘According to the poster, I was promised food, drinks, and karaoke… I didn’t experience any of that.
‘It’s not very accurate. Lastly, the food… it’s clear that they didn’t give it to me, so I can only assume that it’s bad… Honestly I’m a little sad because ‘I was really looking forward to trying it’
Moving on, about 45 minutes later, Dylan decides to stop at a “cheese cave” he sees advertised.
“I have no idea what the cheese cave is. It sounds mysterious, so that has to be my next stop,” he tells viewers.
When he arrives at the cheese cave, Dylan discovers a whole complex of shops and craft workshops.
After stopping at a couple of quaint establishments, he eventually finds the underground cheese cavern, which he gives a thumbs up for its accuracy, but notes that there “wasn’t really much to do” in the subterranean lair.

Dylan continues his journey to Austin with a stop at Eagle’s Landing, his final port of call.
As far as the atmosphere goes, Dylan also gives the resort overall a glowing review.
He explains: ‘For such a big place, it’s very quiet here. The vibes are great…If it weren’t for that cheese cave billboard, I would never have imagined that a place as beautiful as this existed.
Finally, the food also gets a thumbs up. Although the main restaurant was closed, Dylan says he was able to try some cheese and…That was very good.’
Returning to his car, Dylan continues his journey toward Austin with a stop at Eagle’s Landing which will be his final port of call.
As he approaches the restaurant, the YouTube creator says he has a good feeling about the place, noting, “EThis might be the most traditional looking Texas restaurant I’ve ever seen.
‘Obviously, we have a big Texas flag out front. I like that they also have a huge mural on the wall with the cowboy and their front door has an eagle decal on it which is very patriotic.
“I have a feeling the food here is going to be really good.”
Dylan is even more impressed by the atmosphere of Eagle’s Landing, with old-fashioned country music and themed interiors.
He says the chicken fried steak at the roadside diner is the best he’s “ever” had.

Moving on to food, he orders one of the things advertised on the billboard – a chicken fried steak – and the waitress encourages him to try the onion rings as well.
Both dishes get his stamp of approval, and he finds the jumbo onion rings to be “very good” with a perfectly flaky exterior, “not too crispy, not too crunchy.”
Meanwhile, he says the chicken fried steak is the best he’s “ever” tasted.
To end his food-filled tour, Dylan tells viewers, “I’m ready to say that Eagle’s Landing is not only worth a stop, but it’s also the best restaurant I’ve been to on this road trip.”
To date, Dylan’s video focusing on roadside diners has been viewed more than 340,000 times, with many viewers thanking him for sharing his insights.
