A pair of optimistic food lovers flew across the world to try a classic Wimbledon treat, only to be left sorely disappointed after devouring what they described as “literally cream on strawberries”.
Los Angeles-based Nick Iavarone and Australian Xavier Di Petta from Shepparton, Victoria, form the house and techno DJ duo Partyshirt.
The couple headed to SW19 not only to enjoy world-class tennis, but to try the iconic English dessert of strawberries and cream.
Nick and Xavier documented their eagerly awaited tasting experience in a video posted to their TikTok page, @partyshirt, with the caption: ‘We flew 24 hours to try Strawberries and Cream at Wimbledon.’
The video, titled ‘I waited 28 years for this moment’, shows the duo buying a box of strawberries and generously dousing them with cream.
Nick Iavarone (pictured) and Xavier Di Petta embarked on a 24-hour trip to SW19, not only to enjoy world-class tennis, but to try the iconic English dessert of strawberries and cream.
However, their excitement quickly turned to confusion and mild disappointment, when Xavier asked his bandmate, “When you heard strawberries and cream, was this what you were expecting?”
Nick replied: “I don’t know, I thought it was going to be like a cake or something.”
Xavier shared the same sentiment, expecting something “similar” to the dish they were served and more elaborate than “pure cream.”
Nick popped a strawberry dipped in cream into his mouth and admitted, “It’s literally cream on strawberries. Not bad.”
Xavier was next to try the much-loved Wimbledon snack, describing the cream as “powerful”, before highlighting the dessert’s reasonable price at £2.50.
However, when Nick asked him if he would consider buying or eating strawberries and cream again, Xavier replied flatly, “No.”
He concluded that it was a “once in a lifetime” experience and thanked “Wimbledon, strawberries and cream and friends” before he and his bandmate decided to turn their attention to tennis matches.
Having racked up over 32,000 views on the clip, the DJ duo received dozens of comments from viewers sharing their thoughts on the dessert, as well as some offering tips on how to best enjoy the combination.

One person wrote: “British strawberries are so sweet,” while another bemused viewer asked: “A tall box for what?”
Meanwhile, one American viewer asked: “Are strawberries there better than those in the US? For a few years now, it seems like strawberries don’t taste like strawberries anymore. They have no flavour. But in France… WOW, that’s a strawberry!”
Another commenter suggested: “The best way to enjoy strawberries and cream is to slice them, pour the cream over them/mix them in, and leave them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour. They taste great that way.”
This comes as content creator Callum Ryan, from Milton Keynes, revealed how he flew to Portugal from London and bought a plate of peri-peri chicken for less than the cost of a chicken meal at Nando’s.
She normally spends £15 at Nando’s on a medium butterfly chicken meal with peri-peri chips and garlic bread, but she set herself the challenge of flying abroad and buying peri-peri chicken for even less than £15.
