Greg Rutherford has revealed he suffered a “terrifying” and “heartbreaking” experience after a skylight exploded in his home.
The Olympian, 37, took to his Instagram Stories over the weekend to share the aftermath of the terrifying incident, showing off the dangerous shards of glass scattered across his living room.
He admitted he was still “shaking” after the window suddenly shattered, just moments after his children were sitting beneath it.
Greg, who shares children Milo, eight, Rex, five, and Daphne, two, with his fiancée Susie Verrill, expressed his complete shock and relief that no one had been hurt.
Filming the glass shards scattered across the sofa and surrounding floor, he explained: “One of the scariest experiences – one of our skylights up here just exploded.

He admitted he was still “shaking” after the window suddenly shattered, just moments after his children were sitting beneath it.
‘I just literally was standing in the kitchen looking at the TV on the wall, and it just went – bang! And the glass went everywhere.
Recounting Milo’s luck with his eldest son, Greg said, “I’m not kidding, two minutes earlier Milo was here doing some school work and I said, ‘It’s a good day, come out on the deck, buddy.'”
“Thank God I did it because if not, I can’t even imagine what could have happened.”
The retired athlete panned to show the light above and mused, “I have no idea if it’s the sun that heated it up and it happened, or if something like this happens.” I can’t explain how terrifying…’
He then explained how close the call was, saying: “I’ve been in and out because I’ve been trying to order today, I’ve been through here 50 times in the last half hour.”
A shocked Greg concluded: ‘I don’t know. What a heartbreaking thing!
She then posted a close-up photo of the couch where her children had sat moments before, showing how it was now covered in sharp pieces of glass.
Greg captioned the creepy image: ‘The kids were sitting here earlier. I can’t stop shaking!’

It’s the latest in a series of bad luck for the father-of-three, who recently broke his phone while recovering from a bad bout of whooping cough, which forced him to miss the TV BAFTAs last month.
His fiancée Susie also revealed that her beloved dog Gus had terminal cancer and the family took the opportunity to enjoy their last moments with him.
While Greg previously revealed he and his family were going through a “difficult time” following his painful injury on Dancing On Ice.
He was forced to pull out of the final of the ITV show after suffering an injury during rehearsals, later revealing he had torn his abs.
After suffering a few difficult weeks with his family due to the injury, he took to his Instagram Stories to confess: ‘We’re having a good time as a family right now, so I’m cooking it. Thank you for all your good wishes.’
It comes after Greg recently shared his painful scar and ‘crazy swelling’ following his abdominal surgery.
Sharing several candid snaps, she wrote: ‘A little stomach update… It’s been almost 4 weeks since the op and I’m feeling so much better.
‘I can move almost without feeling pain and the wound has already closed and healed. Photo 2 shows the incredible swelling I initially had.

‘I can’t tighten my abs properly yet, but that’s coming. I’ve also managed to gain a lot of weight since the operation, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get fit again…maybe even get back to skating.’
Greg only revealed what his ‘horrible’ injury was on Dancing On Ice when he headed to hospital for surgery.
The athlete said he “effectively had a C-section” when he tried to skate between pro Colin Grafton’s legs in rehearsals.
He told fans: ‘Today is surgery day. Many people have been asking “what happened?”
“I’ve been a bit busy and obviously recovering from the initial injury before surgery, I hadn’t been able to talk about it.
‘Long story short, I jumped through Colin’s legs and managed to tear all my abs and herniate myself. So I actually had a cesarean section.
—So yes, it was terribly painful. He needs to have surgery today and then I will recover properly. “It was very painful, quite horrible.”
The Olympian was set to battle Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire for the trophy.

Ryan skated to victory and was crowned the winner of Dancing On Ice 2024 alongside his professional partner Amani Fancy during the live final.
Meanwhile, Greg shared a video of him and Vanessa James doing the bolero as he regretted missing the final and was “a little heartbroken.”
He wrote: ‘Something I really wish I could have done… #Bolero I’m almost 36 hours since the injury and watching the videos of what could have been. It’s very difficult to accept right now because I know that we could have shown something exciting and new with our final performances.
‘Of course, the Bolero is not a done deal and I will post our showcase at some point too… I haven’t shown the ending because I’m determined to perform it with Vanessa one day for everyone to see.
‘I am very proud of what we achieved in the program. This shot was from Saturday morning and we were dialing in for the double spin… the whole show was really beautiful. I’m a little heartbroken right now.
