General Hospital star Adam J. Harrington has confirmed he will be leaving the long-running ABC soap opera after 63 episodes in which he played John “Jagger” Cates.
The 51-year-old Canadian took on the role previously played by Antonio Sabato, Jr. from 1992 to 1995, when the character resurfaced in Port Charles as an FBI agent in February.
Fans feared for John’s fate after mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) shot him twice during a rainy standoff in last Friday’s episode.
John wanted Sonny to turn himself in and Sonny was outraged that he went after his family members.

“Well, @GeneralHospital was a BLAST, literally!” Adam, who has 18,000 followers on Instagram/X, tweeted Sunday in a farewell full of wordplay.
‘To @valentinifrank, producers and writers. Thank you for the OPPORTUNITY to join your world. I loved it. To the phenomenal cast and crew. It was an honor to witness the CALIBER of your work. Now, seriously, I will miss you all.’
Harrington followed with a message To the viewers and fans of General Hospital: “It’s been an honor to be in your world and feel your passion. To those who have written a farewell letter, I have read every word and am deeply honored. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Until we meet again.”
The avid surfer and Robert Craighead will next appear at a live signing event for the God of War video game on September 12 at 3pm PST via Instagram and Facebook.
Adam also starred as Agent Stevens in two episodes of Abe Sylvia’s star-studded 1969-set satirical soap opera Palm Royale, which Apple TV+ officially renewed for a second season in June.
Harrington, who reportedly has a master’s degree in marine biology, is also known for his roles in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, the Hulu film Boston Strangler, CTV’s Whistler and Showtime’s Queer as Folk.
