Former Newcastle and Peru midfielder Nolberto Solano has parted ways with Northern Premier League side Blyth Spartans.

The 49-year-old was appointed Spartans manager in May following the club’s relegation from the National League North but has presided over a six-match winless run at the start of the new campaign, leaving the club second from bottom with just three points.

A statement on Blyth’s official website read: “Blyth Spartans can confirm that it has agreed to part ways with Nolberto Solano.

“The club would like to express its gratitude to Nobby for his efforts whilst at Spartans.

“Assistant coach David Stockdale will take charge of the team as interim manager ahead of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup match (against Campion AFC).”

Blyth Spartans have released a statement on their official website saying they have parted ways with their manager and former Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano.

Solano, who joined the Magpies from Argentine club Boca Juniors in August 1998, spent seven-and-a-half years on Tyneside in two separate spells and also played for Aston Villa, West Ham, Leicester, Hull and Hartlepool.

After retiring in 2012, the former midfielder began his career as an assistant coach at Newcastle Benfield.

He then moved to their national team also as assistant coach in 2015, before returning to club football at Swedish side Eskilstuna for 11 matches.
