Former NRL player Teui ‘TC’ Robati will stand trial on two counts of rape in July.

The charges relate to an alleged assault on a woman at a bar in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane on December 21, 2022.

Mr Robati, 22, has not yet entered a formal plea in court but has previously denied the allegations.

He remains on bail and was not required to appear when the matter was briefly mentioned before the trial in the Brisbane District Court on Tuesday.

Mr. Robati is scheduled to appear in court for a four-day trial on July 22.

In February, Judge Paul Smith granted a request for the alleged victim to be treated as a special witness.

The woman will pre-record her testimony and will be questioned by Mr. Robati’s lawyer before the trial.

The court may declare a special witness if a person who is required to give evidence is likely to suffer serious emotional trauma or be so intimidated that he or she would be at a disadvantage as a witness.

After the New Zealand-born rugby league player was charged, he was released by the Brisbane Broncos in February 2023 before the NRL season began.

Robati made his NRL debut in 2021 and has appeared in 17 NRL matches. He also represented the Maori All Stars in 2022.
