The Aberglasslyn Ants were holding a pre-season training session at their ground near Maitland when a 31-year-old player collapsed on Tuesday night.

He died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Tuesday’s tragic incident follows another heartbreaking loss for the club, with the death of striker Brodie Pearson last June.

He was injured in a tackle during a match at Fingal Bay. His father was only 27 years old.

“As we keep our No. 8 jerseys for the rest of the season in your honor, we remember you as a friend, a brother, a father and simply one of the kindest souls on our club,” the Ants said in the aftermath of his death.
